Michael Laudrup was in a mix of joy and relief after his side gained a victory over Wigan at the Liberty

He said: “It’s a mixture of joy and relief.

“If you look at the fixtures for the next couple of weeks then we have all the top teams coming up but last season Swansea beat Manchester City and Arsenal at home so anything can happen – it is possible.

“But the next three games in seven days are huge and obviously it is much better to go into those games with 11 points on the board rather than eight. We knew that this game was going to be very important for us. I thought the players played with lots of confidence and also patience because even when you really want to win the game you can’t do it all in the first 10 minutes.

“Games at this level, you win over 90 minutes.

“In the first half both sides wanted the ball and were fighting for possession, I thought we had a little more of it and we were pretty comfortable.

“From the first minute of the second half I thought we were in complete control and, when the two goals came, it looked like a case of when would the third one come.

“But once they got the goal back we had to really suffer in that final 20 minutes.

“The game changed completely and it was one where we had to suffer a lot. They had a goal disallowed that was very tight. After coming back having not won for so long it is probably no surprise that we had to work very hard for the win.

“The team is always happy when they win. When you have players who are not playing they will not be happy even if the team is winning all the time.

“And when the team is not winning there is almost more negativity about everything, it’s been the same way for years and won’t change.

“It was good for Pablo to get his first goal and I thought he played very well, he looked dangerous with the ball. He is getting used to a different league that is more physical than he is used to in Spain.”
