News of former QPR players, including news of Adam Bolder’s explosive impact on the Sheffield derby

I’m surprised they haven’t got the statue up already at Hillsborough after Adam Bolder’s double salvo in the Steel City derby on Tuesday night. Bolder headed home the opener after 39 minutes and then tapped in a second just before the hour to put the Owls 2-0 up against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane but Brian Laws’ men left with only a point after United fought back to equalise through James Beattie late in the day.

Bolder extended his loan in South Yorkshire through to the end of the season earlier this week and is likely to sign there permanently in the summer. Whether that’s in this league or the one below still remains to be seen after this latest set back. Blowing a two goal lead against your local rivals is never a good thing, and it means Wednesday have now drawn their last six matches including Saturday’s game at Scunthorpe where Ben Sahar got the equaliser after Ian Morris’ long range pearler. They’re now two points clear of the drop zone but Barnsley in third bottom have two games in hand.

Elsewhere the midfield battler Bolder replaced, Marc Bircham finally made it out onto the pitch for Yeovil for just the fifth time this season at the weekend as the Glovers lost 2-1 at promotion chasing Carlisle. Manager Russell Slade is hopeful of more to come from the former Millwall man next season after 18 months suffering with a back and hamstring injury.

Slade said: “"A fit Marc Bircham would be in our team and number one in midfield every single week. But he is still two yards of pace short. He has not had the fitness or the match fitness that he needs on a regular basis. You could see little glimpses of a midfielder with a little bit of savvy and a little bit of know-how. The crowd get on his back because he is there and he is upsetting everybody and he is good to have on your side. But all too often we've been without his services."

In the Conference Gary Waddock will claim his title with Aldershot if they get a better result than Torquay this weekend. The Shots currently have Nikki Bull in goal but there could be a merry go round of former R’s between the sticks there this summer with Bull linked with a move to Leyton Orient and our own Jake Cole tipped by many to be Waddock’s keeper in League Two. We shall see.

Down at QPR’s second team Gillingham Danny Cullip has been named the club’s player of the month but Simon Royce is still out with injury, Derek Stillie is his replacement.

Looking at three of our former youth players; Reuben Zadkovic has been tipped to return to England from the Australian A League where he has been playing for Sydney. Crystal Palace are leading the chase for his signature. Giles Coke was on target or Northampton against Cheltenham last week, he joined Mansfield after his release from QPR and was linked with a move to Wolves at one stage before joining the Cobblers. Keiron St Aimee played 70 minutes for Barnet at the weekend as they drew 0-0 with Darlington.
