Thursday, 16th Jul 2015 07:00 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

It was a busy day for pre-season action for Premier League teams as six more teams as well as the Swans were in action. With the new season less than four weeks ago how are our opponents bearing up in their fixtures. Read on for our latest round up

Philadelphia Union 1 Bournemouth 4

Bournemouth kicked off their pre-season fixtures as they prepare for a first season in the Premier League with a 4-1 win over Philadelphia Union in a game where they used 24 different players.

Joshua King and Callum WIlson fired the Cherries into a 2-0 lead inside half hour and second half goals from Marc Pugh and Tokelo Rantie were enough to give them a comfortable win.

Former Swan Shaun MacDonald played the second half for Bournemouth.

Eddie Howe: “I thought the lads showed a great attitude and mentality to the game. Despite the changes to the line up, it was a true Bournemouth performance so I was very pleased to see us score goals and play so well.

“It has been a really productive week. We have crammed in a lot and the players have had very little spare time. That was a conscious effort on our part, to keep them busy and integrated with each other. "

Club Atlas 2 Newcastle United 1

Newcastle were beaten 2-1 by Club Atlas in the first game of their American tour.

The Magpies found themselves two goals down within twenty minutes thanks to two goals from Argentine striker Gonzalo Ruben Bergessio putting the Mexican side firmly in control before Moussa Sissoko halved the deficit on the stroke of half time.

Toon boss Steve McLaren: “It is a unique thing. You can see that with the smiles on their faces that they like playing with each other. They combine very well." he said when referring to his strike force of Cisse and Sissoko.

“I thought Papiss was brilliant, he held the ball up and he brought people into the game.”

Sacramento Republic 1 Sunderland 0

Like Newcastle, Sunderland fell to defeat in their game against Sacramento Republic - the first match of their own American tour.

A second half goal from Iwasa - just four minutes after being introduced to the action - was enough to settle the game in favour of the hosts

Dick Advocaat: "Obviously if you lose it’s not good, but for me it’s more about getting in the right shape for the opening game of the Barclays Premier League season against Leicester

"You could tell that Sacramento are in the middle of their season and we are not yet at the same place and we also had to change the team at the break.

"A number of the international players have only been back a few days, but we still have another two games here.

"We need to get into better shape and we will get there. The result is never as important in pre-season.

"The players are training hard and that’s more important than the way we play at the minute."
