Saints Captain Jose Fonte will miss the Capital One Cup Tie with Liverpool at St Mary's on Wednesday night with the cut knee sustained at Manchester City on Saturday.

I have to admit when Ronald Koeman said he thought Jose Fonte would be fit for the game against Liverpool I thought he was being very optimistic, when I saw the cut that Fonte had on his knee, although its not bad it was right down the front of his knee and that makes it very difficult for it to close up and heal.

Indeed I would also be surprised if Fonte was fit for the visit of Aston Villa on Saturday, in fact with some big games coming up I would say it would be better that Fonte missed the Villa game and makee sure that the knee has plenty of time to heal, otherwise it will just keep opening up again.

The big question now is who replaces Fonte in the centre of the defence against the Merseysiders.
