Steven Davis An Appreciation In Pictures For A Southampton Legend.
Thursday, 25th Jan 2024 20:18

After the sad news that Steven Davis has announced his retirement from playing due to a long standing knee injury, we take a pictorial look over the 6 1/2 years that he spent at St Mary's and wish him well.

The word Legend is bandied around a lot these days, but Steven Davis can lay claim to being a true Southampton one, having played 226 games in all competitions for Saints, scoring 14 goals and playing a big part in 3 top 8 Premier League finishes for the club, reaching the League Cup final and taking part in two Europa League campaigns, he truly has all the credentials.

Here we take a look at him over his 6 years 1/2 years, hopefully it will jog a few happy memories for Saints supporters.

Certainly a major player in the post-Koeman sides, and the fact that he could accumulate 140 caps for N.I (more than 50 of those in his time with Saints) says something about his longevity at the top level when he was still able to command a start place in the Premier League at age 34. His consistency in the Prem. squad may well have kept JWP out of the reckoning during those earliest years with Saints.
Had this injury not been so serious he may well have played on with Rangers past the age of 40, at a time when many players are already beginning to count the days after they get past 30.. Well done Steven Davis.
