Town manager Paul Jewell has revealed that the Blues and Tranmere are set to go to a tribunal after the clubs were unable to come to an agreement regarding compensation for left-back Aaron Cresswell. The 21-year-old was out of contract at the end of last season but the League One side are entitled to cash because he is under 24.
The Blues have made a number of offers to Rovers both before and after Cresswell confirmed his move to Portman Road on July 1st but without an agreement being reached.
Speaking at yesterday’s press conference, Jewell was trying to play Cresswell’s abilities down: "We’re going to a tribunal, so I don’t want to big him up too much, but I think Cressy’s going to be a good player for us.
"Actually, I better not say too much because Tranmere will take cuttings to the tribunal. I think he’s been very poor since he’s been here, he’s got no pace and his left foot terrible!”
More seriously, Jewell says the Liverpool-born defender has done well: "It’s a big step up for Cressy but he’s got better every day.
"I think at first he was a little bit edgy but he’s getting better and better and I think people can see the qualities he can bring to the team over a long period of time.”
The Football League’s tribunal procedure is run by the Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC).
