By Car
Just over 200 miles from Loftus Road this one, up the M1 and M6. Leave the M6 at junction 25 and take the A49 from there into Wigan . Follow that road two miles into town until you reach a large traffic light controlled roundabout after the Aldi store. Turn left there into Robin Park Road which leads to the ground and associated retail park. The ground is easily the biggest structure for some distance in either direction and should be visible from quite some way away. It's 207 miles and three hours 15 minutes from Loftus Road at the speed limit.

Parking
Unusually for a new stadium the DW has been built with more than adequate car parking for all supporters, with a designated away car park apparently charging £5 for cars, £10 for mini buses and £20 for coaches. This can take a while to clear after matches. Avoid the nearby retail park which has a strictly enforced two hour parking limit and a £50 fine for those who disobey the rules.
By Train
This late in the day (apologies for the guide being published later than usual) trains up the Virgin operated West Coast Mainline are going to be very expensive. Indeed a quick check of the direct services from London Euston to Wigan North Western only brought up the £74.20 standard return fare. There are two stations in Wigan though (literally right next door to each other) and a few ways to play around with this trip to get the cost down. There are still returns to Manchester Piccadilly kicking around for £65 with a £4 return available from there to Wigan Wallgate. Or you can brave the frequently stationary but nonetheless very cheap London Midland service to Crewe (with a journey time of three hours but a cost of just £8 at 0624, £12 at 0746 or £14 at 0846), then back in the evening on Virgin for £25 at 18.25 (pushing it) or £34.50 (19.51) with a £14.20 open return available from there to Wigan – potentially as low as £47.20 return if you weren't keeping track.
The guide says the ground is a taxi or bus ride away and takes at least 20 minutes to walk but I'm not having it. I'm sure it didn't take us that long last season and it was teeming with rain at the time so won't have felt short by accident. Come out of North Western and turn left, or Wallgate and turn right, and walk down the high street under the railway bridge. Take the third right down Miry Lane and then follow that through the industrial park until you reach a cul-de-sac on your left with a steel bridge over the canal at the end of it – this should be obvious with a stream of people heading over it to the match. The ground is clearly visible from there.
By Coach
The club coach leaves Loftus Road at 8am and the Target Roundabout at 8.30am priced £32 for adults, £21 for seniors and young adults, £19 for under 16s and season ticket holders get the usual discounts. The LSA coach leaves the Springbok at 8am but is now sold out.
Where to drink
Apparently for some matches Wigan now set up a marquee next to the away end offering beer, pies and live football although it wasn't there for our visit last season. There is also the Red Robin, a new build pub on the retail park which might be the best bet for those arriving by car and parking at the ground. The town centre is walkable and is where those arriving by train, to either station, will arrive. That has all the usual suspects. The Anvil is the CAMRA recognised pub, the Swan and Railway is the one best avoided. Many end up in the Moon Under Water Wetherspoons.
Match Tickets
Always a cheap day out this one – adults £20, seniors £15, juniors £5, and disabled or ambulant disabled tickets the same with a free carer. Rangers have 2,000 to sell in advance and basically as many as they want to flog on the day given the colossal size of the away end.

U's Vs Accrington Match Preview As the round of matches over the festive period draws to a close, we have the visit of Accrington Stanley on that most rare of events in our football history, a Sunday afternoon kick-off. If you filter out play-off and cup games, in the league this accounts for just 25 games since we were formed, seven won, six drawn and 12 lost. As you would imagine, Sunday games are generally focussed around Christmas and the New Year, or more recently, Sky-mandated final games of the season. It’s been a pretty positive holiday schedule for the U’s too, eight points from four games, and with other results often going our way, we’re now just two places and three points outside the play-offs.
U's Vs MK Dons Match Preview Happy New Year U’s fans! After two hard fought 1-1 draws away from home across the festive period we kick off the New Year with a home match against Milton Keynes. Tickets look to be selling well, although not in the West Stand it seems, so should be a decent crowd providing MK bring more than their normal coach load. I know it doesn’t count for anything but the calendar year League Two table has us in fifth with 72 points from 46 matches played so 2025 hasn’t been a bad year to be a U’s fan.
Gillingham Vs U's Match Preview First and foremost, I hope you are all having a pleasant Christmas break relaxing with family and friends, and wishing you all a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. This will be our final match of 2025, with a trip to Priestfield to face old adversary Gillingham, our second game against them this month and our third this season. This will be our 112th game in all competitions against the Gills, a relationship that started with a Ted Davis U’s side winning 2-0 at Layer Road on 27th August 1938. At the final whistle tomorrow we will also be at the halfway point of the season, so considering at the end of September we were 20th, plenty of optimism for the second half of the season.
Crawley Vs U's Match Preview Merry Christmas U’s fans! Boxing Day in proper football leagues means football matches and the U’s face one of their shortest trips of the season as they venture across the Thames to face creepy Crawley. Crawley’s “stadium” is one of the few grounds I’ve gone away with the U’s (the 3-1 League Cup win back in 2019) and it felt like a ground that should be in the National League South but Crawley have been established in the football league since 2011 with two promotions to League One during that time which is impressive given the relative size of the club. We don’t have a huge history against Crawley Town, with just 24 meetings to date of which Crawley have won 11. In fact since that memorable League Cup win we hadn’t managed to beat Crawley until the, not as memorable but probably more important, 3-2 away win towards the end of the 2023/24 season that went a long way to helping us stay in this division.
U's Vs Newport Match Preview And so, Danny and Nicky enter their second century of games managing the U’s, at home to struggling Newport – let’s hope it starts a bit better than the first century finished. There won’t be many games we score three and lose, trouble is there’ll be even fewer where we concede four and win. That being said, I couldn’t fault the first hour of the Salford game, with the U’s in control of a game against good opposition, and on a typically heavy pitch. Then we kind of fell apart, certainly defensively, helped in no small part by a masterclass from ex-U’s Luke Garbutt (how is he only in League 2?). Credit must also go to 250+ of the faithful, a long trip starting at stupid o’clock – they deserved more than that for their support.
