In the latter days of September 1997 Jan Molby introduced the ultimate striking machine to Swansea City Football Club: Steve Watkin. That previous statement is somewhat of an overstatement, but super Stevie Watkin was a legend. Swansea's greatest striker ? Simply, No. However when you watched Steve Watkin pull on the white shirt of Swansea you knew he'd give 100% to the cause. His workrate was second to none, and his uncanny ability to hold the ball up always allowed players to get involved, an unselfish forward who bagged nigh on 50 goals in near on 200 appearances. As a youngster watching Watkin i always admired his effort, and sheer stubborn nature. He never had the silky skills of Trundle, the brute force of Alsopp, nor the comic value of Nuge. But who has the heart and honesty of Watkin.
