Martin's career started at Walsall, where he came through the youth system after receiving rave reviews. His career didn't take off though, and he moved to Cambridge in 1997. He hit the ground running here, scoring 53 goals in just over 100 games. It was this that alerted Reading, and he moved to the Royals in 2000 for £750000. He enjoyed two and a half seasons with Reading before moving to Rotherham in 2003. He scored seven goals last season, helping Rotherham avoid relegation to League Two. This season he has returned to the Bescot Stadium and his goals have fired Walsall to the top of League Two.
