Gareth Southgate belives that Swansea are better than the 3-0 weekend scoreline suggests
The Middlesbrough manager was surprised at the comprehensive nature to the scoreline on Saturday as his side's 3-0 victory left the Swans at the bottom of the fledgling league table - the only side in the division without a point.
But the visiting manager pointed to the injuries the Swans have suffered as a key factor in the difference between the two sides and said after the game
“Swansea are a lot better than that result suggests
“I think it’s very difficult for them because they have continued with their style of play, but have lost their two most effective players from last year in Gomez and Scotland.
“When you add the fact Joe Allen and Ferrie Bodde are out injured, that’s tough for any team to cope with.
“You need your best players out on the field to get results and, at the moment, Swansea aren’t able to do that.”
The Swans have an immediate chance to bounce back following the defeat when they entertain Reading - themselves on the end of a 3-0 defeat on Saturday - on Tuesday night.
