Wages fear as McDermott admits fight for life

With the Football League blocking Massimo Cellino's bid to takeover at Leeds, the burning question is can GFH Capital find the money to pay the players on time?

Given some of the recent gutless showings, including Tuesday nights trip to Bournemouth where we were thrashed 4-1 it is highly debatable whether or not the players actually deserve paying for their recent efforts but clearly it provides a ready-made excuse for another feeble showing against Doncaster Rovers tomorrow.

Brian McDermott admitted once again that issues off the pitch dominated those on it.

He said: "We haven’t really talked about football since when? January? February? March? We won’t talk about Doncaster too much, even though it is the only thing we should be talking about.

"Unfortunately, we are talking about other issues. Again.”

"i would say that all of us are fighting for our Leeds United future — players staff, all of us. We have got nine games to go and they are an important nine games.

"Who wants to be here next season? Who wants to wear the shirt next season? I think we are fighting for that future. The club’s situation is obviously priority number one, two and three.

"So is the ownership situation. But as a staff and a group of players, we have got to fight for our lives now.”

With the League blocking Cellino's bid, yet again GFH Capital have made another blunderous decision. Out of sheer desperation, they courted the Italian in late January no doubt fully aware of his past and pending convictions.

Rather than new owners, we have gained yet another creditor.

Maybe somebody should have given them a history lesson how, given any opportunity the Football League like to give Leeds United a good kicking?

So unless they can find a rich friend to lend them a few quid, I wouldn't be surprised if the players are asked to defer a proportion of their wages to stave off administration like in 2003/04.
