Dom Vose is set to sign a new two-year contract with the U's after agreeing new terms.
Speaking to the Gazette, boss Joe Dunne said: "We've agreed everything with Dominic and it's just a case of getting some paperwork finished.
"We're very close with it and we've agreed in principle.
"It's a two-year contract which will give him the chance to progress."
The 20-year-old midfielder-cum-winger made 28 appearances (19 starts/9 subs) last season, after signing a monthly contract in November, and an extension to the end of the season in January. He is one of four out-of-contract players being offered new deals - the other three being keeper Mark Cousins, left-back Ryan Dickson and midfielder David Wright.
Update - Vose signed his new contract on Friday 23rd May.
