Leeds let Lee leave

Leeds United and Lee Peltier have agreed to part company, with the former Liverpool defender expected to stay in West Yorkshire.

Lee Peltier is now a free-agent, the club and the 27-year-old have agreed to part-company by mutual consent despite him having a year left on his current deal.

Neil Warnock signed the former Huddersfield defender for around £850,000 two years ago from Leicester City succeeding Robert Snodgrass as captain. However he made an indifferent start, in some respects Warnock chose to play him out of position at left-back where he was woefully exposed.

To be honest, when he played in a more accustomed right-back role he didn't look much better, nor did he seem that comfortable at centre-half.

Last season, although he made 27 appearances for the club, he fell foul of sections of the support and Brian McDermott okayed a loan-move to Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Clearly new head coach Dave Hockaday doesn't rate him that highly either and I would have thought he was one of our higher paid wage earners so maybe it's a good idea to get him off the books?

Peltier took to twitter to bid Leeds farewell, ahead of any official word from Leeds United he tweeted: "I have now officially left Leeds united football club, just want to thank all the people at the club who have helped and supported me.

"All the fans that have supported me over the two years, and all the boys at the club been a pleasure working with them - top lads, wish them all the best for the season, now time for me to me on to the next chapter off my career and look forward to the future.”

Early reports suggest he may be a target for Huddersfield, who are one of many of his former clubs.
