Joe Dunne has indicated that he expects to have two new players at the club this week.
The club are currently looking to recruit a couple of full-backs following the departure of Brian Wilson to Oldham Athletic and Ryan Dickson to Crawley Town, and speaking about these positions, the U's boss told the EADT: "We are very close to signing two new players.
"I'm hoping they will be unveiled early this week, and there could also be a new keeper coming in.
"It looks like I am going to be in the fortunate position of being able to get the players that I need, within our budget."
With it now being July, players who were out of contract at the end of last season now officially become free agents, so now is when the signing of new players is likely to happen.
Meanwhile, with the U's players returning to training last week, defender Josh Thompson has been offered a new contract, having proved his fitness. David Wright is also mulling over a new deal.
