Blair Sturrock signed for Dale in August 2005, just five days before the start of the 2005-6 season. He joins Dale after a successful two week trial spell with the club in which he featured without scoring in games against Forest Green Rovers, Barrow and Huddersfield Town.

His time at Dale was a moderately successful one. He came to the club as very much the third choice striker behind Grant Holt and Rickie Lambert, and had to make do with most appearances being off the bench.

That said, his scoring record with the club was quite good. He managed six goals whilst with Dale, which was quite good given his position in the pecking order, and an injury which ruled him out of pretty much the whole of the second half of the season.

Sturrock is probably best described as a striker who popped up in places at the right time. He never had the skill of a Lambert or the strength of a Holt, and he was hardly blessed with pace, but he just had this habit of being there when it counted. How many other Dale players throughout history can claim to have scored a winner with his breasts?

Some thought he was unlucky to be released when he was, and had he not missed so much of the back end of the season through injury could easily have ended up in double figures for the season.

Before joining Dale, he'd had spells at Plymouth, Kidderminster, Brechin and Dundee United.

Upon his release by Dale, he eventually signed for Swindon Town who were managed by his Dad, and he enjoyed promotion to League One in this first season, scoring three times along the way.
