Walsall accepted a bid from the U's for the defender at the weekend and the player discussed terms with the U's earlier this week.
Speaking to the press, Williams confirmed: "Daniel has been down to see us. We've shown him around the new stadium and the plans we have and we've spoken to his representatives.
"Daniel and his representatives have gone away to think about their options. Ideally, we would like to get it all concluded as soon as possible."
Wolves and Leeds United are both also believed to be interested in the player and while it's not known whether Wolves have bid for the player, Leeds did have a bid rejected prior to the U's offer.
