Chief Executive Steve Bradshaw has confirmed that the club is interested in signing Shrewsbury Town striker Grant Holt.
Speaking to the Gazette, Bradshaw said: "We have made a bid and the bid was rejected by Shrewsbury.
"We are still speaking to Shrewsbury at the moment.
"Negotiations are amicable and we’re hoping that we can do business."
It is believed that an initial bid in the region of £250,000 was knocked back by Shrewsbury last week.
