Goalkeeper Ben Williams has agreed to sign for the U's after passing a medical.
The move isn't yet official, with Williams still to sign a contract, but the stopper is already training with the Colchester squad and it is expected that the move will be completed in the next few days.
An undisclosed fee was agreed between the U's and Carlisle United for the 26-year-old on Tuesday.
