That wouldn't surprise me, if we can get good money for him would make sense.

Hope this isn't true. Ingram is decent, but Smithies is on another level. The best player at the club.

As we covered already on the keepers thread a few days ago, if we get a good offer that makes us a profit and already have a younger and competent replacement in the building, it makes sense to sell - whatever position and whichever player it is. I don't want to lose Smithies, I've been championing him enough for a long time, but if he would be more settled back up north, and we have a 22 year old looking good and ready to take his place - then so be it.

Let's se though, could all be just chat for the moment!

I think Ingram can improve if he gets the distribution part flowing but agree, Smithies is a wonderful keeper and like great keepers such as the Schmeichel dynasty and others, knows how to find a player quickly from collecting the ball. He will be a big loss but I have been impressed with Ingram so far. Surely we should work to keep both. Problem is that if he isn't settled in London then what can the club do apart from say either, put the f*ck up with it or sorry to hear that and good luck.

Would explain why Ingram has been playing so regularly recently. Hasselbaink praised Ingram recently saying he'll inevitably be a top flight keeper, so perhaps this has been on the cards for a while.

As much as I like Ingram from his brief appearances, he's not currently on Smithies' level and it would be a massive loss if Smithies left. Hopefully we'd at least make some money on him.

If he was to go, Bentley may be worth looking at again. His contract is up and he's not staying at Southend.

no great shock , even if we were playing Ingram for experience the last few games you would have thought Smithies would be on the bench for back up , seems to me him and his family haven't settled , shades of Paul Wright (Remember him kids ? )
I heard Villa were very keen on signing him a few weeks back so I reckon he is definitely off come what may in the summer

And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles Brian Moore

If he had got his chance earlier he may be playing in the play offs this week .

Cannot keep him if he wants to go unlike Ale and Clint who do not appear to be in JFH plans. Hope we get a good fee for him cracking goalie....think a few more going hope Jimmy has got good replacements lined up can see what he Jimmy meant about a busy summer let's hope we get right sort in and will need some experience

Hope not!

Also no guarantee that a team in the right area wants/can afford him surely?

Wants to head up North again? Haven't we heard this before?

Expect to see Watford signing him next week then.

Would be remarkably short sighted (of Smithies) if true.

Sorry Dave,

I usually agree with most of what you say, but selling one of the best GK prospects we have had in umpteen years so soon after buying him would make no sense whatsoever.

Surely we are not going to sell Smithies? Hes got into our side, and been our best player in most games. Ingram looks great, but Smithies is a class act and give you that extra bit of confidence. Really hope this is not true

Everton are looking for a keeper.
My first choice replacement would be Bentley out of Sarfend an' all.

Poll: So how was the season for you?

Smithies maybe off as well on 17:09 - May 9 with 5693 viewsBrianMcCarthy

It's only one journo talking about homesickness for now, so let's not get too excited. Also good to have clarification on the reasons for his absence from the bench ie injury.

Would be a huge loss, particularly as his fee wouldn't be half as high as it might be in 12 months time with a big season behind him. But it's just one journo for now using words like 'could', 'understand' etc.
