Happy League 2016/17 Week 19 (of 38) - Deadline 15.00 Saturday 23:52 - Dec 10 with 1071 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 18 Results

BARNSLEY 2 NORWICH 1

Barnsley secured a first home league win since 27th August, by inflicting Norwich's sixth defeat in seven games. There were 3 who got this spot-on, but nobody had the outcome. After their big win last week, 16 predicted Norwich to win again.

IPSWICH 1 CARDIFF 1
Ipswich came from behind to get a draw against 10-man Cardiff. A good result for the 8 who had this spot-on. Again nobody got the outcome. There were 13 who predicted an Ipswich victory.

SOUTHEND 3 COVENTRY 1
Southend made it nine league games undefeated with this convincing win. The weeks banker for most, with 3 getting it spot-on, and a further 18 having the outcome.

GRIMSBY 0 PORTSMOUTH 1
A late free-kick earned Portsmouth victory in front of Grimsby's biggest home crowd of the season. There were 3 who had this spot-on, with 13 getting the outcome.

LUTON 1 CARLISLE 1
Luton are another team this week who came from behind to get a point against 10 men. A popular result with 9 getting this spot-on, and another 2 having the outcome.

PLYMOUTH 2 DONCASTER 0
Plymouth ended their three-match losing run, and replace Doncaster (who ended with 10 men) at the top of League 2. Just the 2 (wessex_exile and johnnyboy53) had this spot-on, with 7 getting the outcome. There were 12 who predicted a win for Doncaster, with 9 going for 2-1.

After a run of tough weeks, that was more like it this week. With every game producing a 3 pointer, it helped us to have our best six game week of the season so far. Despite that it was still a poor week for the other outcomes, with only the wins for Southend and Portsmouth producing many of them. But the twenty-eight 3 pointers were what this week was all about. It has been well documented about the lack of 3 pointers for noah4x4 this season. Well he put that to bed in a big way this week, by getting three of them. He had the Barnsley and Portsmouth wins and the Luton draw, with two other outcomes as well, he got a fantastic 11 points. That should have been enough to be a top scorer in any six game week, but not this one, as he found his equal with gsy163 also getting a brilliant 11 points. He had the draws at Ipswich and Luton to go with the win for Portsmouth spot-on, and two other outcomes. If there was big money for being the weeks top scorer, rather than the satisfaction of having a better week than everybody else, then wessex-exile would have felt hard done by, as his excellent 10 points would normally be enough to win it in a six game week. He also had three spot-on, they were the win for Southend and the Luton draw, to go with his Plymouth win. There were also four members who got two 3 pointers, the best of which were basher2010 and johnnyboy53 who both got a very good 8 points.

In the Premier, with two more 3 pointers this week burnsieespana remains well on course to win his second title in a row, as he extends his lead to decent 7 points. After spending the first half of the season just pleased to be avoiding relegation, wessex_exile now leaps into the final Charity Shield spot, with his seasons best score. After last weeks blank, two 3 pointers this week keeps sevebalo well in contention for a top three finish. With five of the bottom six all scoring 5 points, there is little change there.

In Division One, another decent week for basher2010, enables him to extend his lead to a healthy 7 points. An unfortunate no show from Pinalt_Noir allows Colukev to reclaim the other automatic spot. The top scoring efforts from gsy163 and noah4x4 moves them both up three places, and into the play-off spots. It is just a one week stay in the play-offs for desthegooner, down three, and mrhappy, down two. Further down the league, it is a three place rise for concordman, as he attempts to make up for two no shows this season. Going three places the other way are WessiehomesPete and OhOriOri, in his case not helped by a no show. A seasons best score for johnnyboy53 takes him off the bottom. Though not for long, as gerry_us has unfortunately now officially withdrawn from all Happy competitions. The "An apology" thread explains his reason for withdrawing. Hope we see you again in future Gerry, the board will be a sadder place without you.

As for Champions League qualification, wessex_exile correctly pointed out that it is the scores as on 31st December that will count. So there is three weeks, and 22 games left now. The important eleventh qualififying spot is now held by ethicsgirl, with 77 points.

THE TABLES (128 out 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)
