Super U's to edge a right Royal affair at the WHCS 17:41 - Aug 29 with 1440 views | durham_exile | JM buoyed by the Super U’s inspirational performance on Saturday against FRG entertain Reading U21’s in the much maligned and discredited Cup Competition, the Checkatrade Trophy. Still it is a day out at Wembley for the finalists! After the Royals, we play Gillingham at the WHCS and then Southend at Roots Hall. Now interestingly Peterborough have already expressed their desire to win the competition, so it will be interesting to see how the Super U’s set up for their first fixture tonight. The rules this season state that four outfield players must have started the previous or following league game and the new ABBA style of penalty taking will also come into play if scores are level at 90 mins, but whilst many sides will rest players, JM does not have much flexibility to do the same. It does however give the WHCS faithful the chance to see the U’s Goalkeeping coach Rene Gilmartin between the sticks and to change things up a bit. Will JM be bold enough to play such a youthful team to match the Royals. Gilmartin Vincent-Young Kent James Kinsella Edge Murray O’Sullivan Kpekawa Issa Senior Subs: Walker Lapslie Loft Szmodics Mandron Eastman Wright The attendance will be under 1000 but hopefully it should be an entertaining game. Up the Super U’s

Super U's to edge a right Royal affair at the WHCS on 20:26 - Aug 29 with 1380 views | thrillseeker | A truly shocking error by Eastman for Readings 2nd goal. If only Drew Wright could convert his chances - we would be winning 3 or 4-2 at HT instead of trailing. Diaz Wright looks good by just doing tbe simple things | | | | Login to get fewer ads

The ABBA penalties now, where the winner takes it all. Well get an extra point anyway. And we win the penalty shoot out 6-5. [Post edited 29 Aug 2017 21:38]

Super U's to edge a right Royal affair at the WHCS on 08:10 - Aug 30 with 1247 views | noah4x4 | Only 527 fans; only West Stand open. About 20 of us moved ten seats backwards simply to get out of the driving rain, but still in the same type of plastic 'blue' seats (not the padded!). All seats were advertised at £10 for an adult. No evidence of occupied boxes or Corporate hospitality etc in that area. Then a stupid young woman in a suit demands that the stewards remove us to avoid us upsetting the VIPs sat ONLY in the 'white' seats (note we had remained in cheap plastic unpadded blue). I obliged, but many fans refused to move to avoid getting soaked. Eventually, she is seen consulting with Cowling who evidently did the sensible thing and these loyal fans were left in peace. This is the type of crass jobsworth stupidy that deters many fans. This was our record lowest ever attendance and hence only our most loyal fans turned up and all deserved respect and a dry seat notably when 9,000 identical seats were empty. The Fans were just sat there avoiding getting wet, no trouble, no chanting, no misbehaviour. Yet again , incredibly stupid misjudgement by stadium management (the stewards even said they thought it bonkers, but they had been instructed by "control'). Suspect the next gate for this competition might be even lower if we cant be guaranteed dry seats..... [Post edited 30 Aug 2017 8:27]

Super U's to edge a right Royal affair at the WHCS on 09:22 - Aug 30 with 1225 views | thrillseeker | Overall it was quite an enjoyable game to watch on a very wet evening Diaz Wright impressed me - calm and did the simple things - very effective Drey Wright - played well except when around 18 yard box. His conversion rate of chances is appalling and his final ball is clueless. He needs to think more and then he will be an 8/10 player instead of his consistent 6.5/10
Super U's to edge a right Royal affair at the WHCS on 09:23 - Aug 30 with 1225 views | BlueStripes | It's a pity we won the penalty shoot-out giving us an extra point and putting us in danger of progressing to the next round of this farcical competition. Hats off to the 527 hardy souls who did bother to turn up, but the majority of fans (of all clubs) have shown time and time again that they're simply not interested in this most tin pot of tin pot competitions. I would have thought the main focus of this tournament is to try and avoid picking up yet more injuries to our already depleted squad! However, given that I suppose clubs have no choice whether to enter the competition or not, then the club should price the tickets sensibly. £5 seems a far more reasonable price to pay for this than £10 and Cowling should also make a personal apology to the fans who were told to remain sitting in the rain (see Noah's post) and the ridiculous woman who instigated it all should be given a severe reprimand
