Bury FC 20:43 - Jul 11 with 2903 viewsburnsieespana

Whilst sad for the fans of Bury, I am disgusted they were allowed to gain promotion since the club have now told the players they are free to leave without any fee, etc so long as they give two weeks notice as they have not been paid since March, well before season end.
Evidently something like £16m is owed including a chunk to the HMRC.

burnsie - I agree it is disgraceful and it is difficult to see them surviving in League One this season.

It is unclear what the make-up of Wilkinson’s (new manager) squad will be, with the club having not announced a retained list or any new signings. Danny Mayor and Jay O’Shea have both moved on after their contracts expired while goalkeeper Joe Murphy, the other Bury player to be named in the League Two team of the year, signed for Shrewsbury last Thursday.

Top scorer Nicky Maynard (Mansfield) and Chris Stokes (Stevenage) also left last week, while Will Aimson has followed Mayor and manager Lowe to Plymouth.

All made a significant contribution to last season’s promotion success but none of their departures have been acknowledged by the club.

A total shambles and it would appear that the club is being allowed to go to the wall.

The Shakers are truly Shaken by this approach to their financial woes.

Oddly the 12 point deduction makes me even more angry about how this has been conducted.
Two sides in Div 1 now start on - 12 points so Southend and Ipswich should survive!

Bolton start League 1 with a 12 point deduction too.

Lower end of L1 is a bit of a joke.

It is because as both sides look like relying upon U 23's and caste offs be nailed on favourites for relagation.

I see that the EFL are hanging Bury out to dry.

Their opening game has been suspended while checks are made on their ability to fund the season.

Interestingly Bolton Wanderers are being allowed to play their game against Wyscum.

The hypocrisy here is legion given what other clubs have previously got away with.

A very sad and ultimately serious situation.

Tricky one - I feel for the honest Bury supporters, but have no sympathy for the club as a whole. They bank-rolled a promotion they couldn’t afford, and in the process denied others (including us) the opportunity to do it fairly and playing by the rules. Cheats.

Both clubs have been asked to provide evidence that they have funding in place for this season. Bolton have satisfied the authorities in this regard, Bury haven’t.

Bury’s game at Accrington on 10 August is also under threat of suspension so it does appear they are being given time to satisfy the requirements.

Wessex I could not agree more with what you have said. The Bury fans enjoyed last season at the expense of a lot of fans of teams just below them including us.

So, how about all the clubs that have gone into administration over the years ?

Well I suppose it depends on the circumstances in each case, because there are bound to be cases of inept management, unscrupulous owners etc. But for those that get themselves into financial difficulty through deliberately spending beyond their means to gain advantage and success, then yes they are cheating, and at the same time denying others who don’t operate that way their chance to succeed.

Div 1 going to be a mockery this year with two teams starting on minus 12 and only 7 players each I believe signed up.

Bury's second game against Accrington next week now also postponed. They must be very close to the edge now.

Oh well it could be worse for us as looking like Bury will be defunct by end of the week.
How a side who won automatic promotion can come to this is unbelievable.

Is Neil Danns still at Bury? If so we should make enquiries (we won't, of course). Would certainly add some leadership on the pitch which has been lacking for far too long.

Looks like he is still there..but probably not match fit!
Would be beyond the realms of possibility however that Cowling / McGreal would even think to bring in an old boy with tons of experience. Could unsettle the team.

Apparently Steve Dale the errant chairman of Bury has agreed a deal with an Analytics Company C&N Sporting risk led by Henry Newman and Rory Campbell.

EFL considering extending the winding up period until 5pm on Tuesday next.

With the corridor of uncertainty at present now is the best time to swoop for Harry Bunn the Bury striker.

But will we, very unlikely.

Bolton have now joined Bury in having to complete the clubs sale by 17.00 next Tuesday.

I think Bury will survive after all, but not so sure about Bolton.

Bury expelled from the EFL tonight.

Bolton given 14 more days to broker a solution

Implications whilst four clubs will be promoted from league two only three clubs will be relegated this season.

Two clubs will be promoted from the National League but only one will be relegated from league two.

If Bolton also go then no team will be relegated from league two.

Reading further into the circumstances it appears Bury bought and paid (allegedly) players with money they didn't have to achieve an unlikely promotion last season.
Stupidity rules; furthermore denied another Div. 2 team promotion (and not necessarily U's) and finally resulted in the only action available to EFL however sad that may be for one of the oldest clubs in the league and however sorry you feel for the fans.
Lesson to be learned by all teams outside Prem. You cannot buy success.

Gerry, even more bizarrely Bury were allowed to sell Tickets for their fixture against Doncaster Rovers up until 5pm last night.

There is now a concerted effort from would be suitors to buy the club but the decision has been made after a further extension from the EFL.

In other news Bolton have been sold to Football Ventures so perhaps they will survive.

The problem has not been helped at both North West England clubs by shocking owners who clearly had no idea how to run a football club.
