Favourite Cheese 15:39 - Sep 9 with 4142 viewsBrianMcCarthy

Time we resurrected one of our favourite threads.

I was told I was lactose-intolerant (among other intolerances) many years ago and had to cut out all cheese. Now, as a result of minding myself and my diet for years I can eat cheese again.

So, currently in the Pyrenees, I’m enjoying a glass of Corbieres and some Roquefort. Amazing combination.

I’m saying it now. Roquefort is my favourite.

Mind you, I’m now able to sample the LFW suggestions!

I like Wensleydale, a nice dry tasting cheese. And most hard goat cheese.

Four posts in and still no-one has said 'Nob'. Kudos all round.

That blue Brie stuff, Cambozola, for me. Very nice indeed.

I once said to a French girl, “I love your country apart from the wine and the cheeses. They’re not all that really” Surprised she didn’t attack me and actually carried on the conversation I asked her what she thought the best French was. She answered Crotin De Chavignol. I remembered the name and a year later in France I tried some. I’m not a massive fan of goats cheese but this is delicious. Not too strong but lots of subtle flavours. Strangely refreshing.

Btw: Brian, in the Pyrenees, if you’re anywhere near Ax-Les-Thermes, it’s well worth a visit.

Am I the only one who hates cheese? When I say cheese, I mean lumps of cheese. Melted cheese on a pizza don’t count, as the other stuff on there masks it.

I bloody hate cheese.

Bleu des Basques has rocketed to the top of the of the pile for me. Can be found in Borough Market and I’ve also found it in Harrison’s in Pitzhanger Lane.

With age, I find I’m purchasing more blue cheeses: Cashel, Stilton and Roquefort are all blinding. but I won’t turn my nose up at a good goats cheese, a Yarg and a pwaper cheddar are delicious.

If you do splash out on a good hard cheese (and some soft ones) try a little dash of truffle infused honey. I was in a restaurant in France three years back and when the waiter offered a dash I was a bit nahhh at first. Now, it seems only natural. Bit pricey, but you’ll thank me later....

If you like Roquefort Brian and you like a good sausage then may I recommend the following cheesy sausage;

Chorizo with Roquefort. Literally had it for lunch yesterday. There was a party in my mouth.

Extra mature cheddar, farmhouse cheddar, discovered a cove cheddar from Cornwall in M & S the other week which was lovely.
I have never tried any soft cheese as I can’t stand the texture, and refuse point blank to try any of the Brie my girlfriend has in the fridge.

Wookey Hole Cheddar, Gorwydd Caerphilly. I also like those slices of Jarlsburg you get in packets, just role them up and chomp on them as they are.

If it's the one that comes in the Black Wax all their cheeses are rather tasty.

Port Salut, Leerdammer and Gouda. Can't go wrong.

Quite like that Mexican Cheddar from Tesco, always buy a generous slice for Xmas.

I went off Port Salut for a while but got some on offer last week. Was rather nice.

Leerdammer is similar to Jarlsburg I seem to remember. Has a nice nutty flavour.
