Super U's to eradicate creepy Crawleys in Cup thriller 12:09 - Oct 29 with 1458 viewsdurham_exile

This evening JM and his charges play the most important Cup Tie since that famous night on 3 December 1974 when Aston Villa came to Layer Road in the Quarter Final of the League Cup. In front of 11,812 (including me) Villa edged the U’s 2-1 with Ray Graydon scoring a 35 yards thunderbolt to eventually win the game. The game was a classic and one of the great Layer Road nights.

Now when the draw for tonight was made both Crawley and Colchester would have been disappointed, but the more you think it through, either team could play in the Quarter Finals and the realistic opportunity for another big pay day.

Now tonight’s game will see 1,700 of the faithful along with 4,300 home fans in a sell out game. Forget about the recent league game, that means nothing now, it is all about tonight.

Stop press: repairs to the East Stand at Crawley has provided an extra 110 tickets to be sold on a first come, first served basis!

Tuesday games:
Burton v Leicester
Crawley v Col U
Everton v Watford
Man City v Southampton
Oxford v Sunderland

Wednesday games:
Villa v Wolves
Chelsea v Man U
Liverpool v Arsenal

The Quarter Finals draw will be live on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday Morning at about 0845hrs.

Forget also about the weekend games. They have gone and we are in Cup mode now.

Crawley managed by Gabriele Cioffi have the dangerous Beryly Lubala back after suspension and could line up as follows:

Morris
Sesay Tunnicliffe Dallison Doherty
Grego-Cox Camara Ferguson Nathaniel-George
Lubala Nadeson

JM looks likely to play an unchanged team. He knows the importance of this game and after despatching the Exiles in some style on Saturday, will be looking to impose themselves on the Reds this evening.

Gerken

Jackson Eastman Prosser Bramall

Stevenson Comley Senior

Poku Norris Nouble

Subs:

Ross Sowunmi Brown Wiredu Harriott Clampin Gambin

The news that Harry Pell is back and playing for the U23’s is welcome news and it is hoped he could feature at Mansfield, perhaps from the bench. Pell’s return will be like a new signing and he will slot in with Stevenson and Comley in an imposing midfield. But not tonight.

Crawley weather tonight will be mostly cloudy and 8 degrees Celsius. A dry evening is forecast.

Safe journey to the travelling faithful. Enjoy the game and let’s see the Super U’s in the draw on Thursday.

Up the U’s

Norris had his best game for a long time and was unfortunate an injury brought a premature end to game.

What a night
