Great player, but hand of God tarnished his reputation in England. My only surprise is that with all his drug addiction issues, he managed to reach his 60th birthday. RIP

Did he actually say that or was it a wry comment by Tim? If Lineker did actually say it as an actual tribute, no matter what we think of Maradona it's pretty poor taste. That's not a dig at Tim as on here we understand it as a bit of banter between "these 4 walls", but from the BBC's "top" football presenter (well, top earner) it stinks

Its all a bit of banter. I was just resending a message I got from our football team WhatsApp group. These jokes come out so quickly these days !! Probably made up by someone but it came with a Sky News graphics heading and a picture of him punching it in. It's probably not from Lineker. There is another allegedly from Shilton on twitter saying..,. Try to cheat death you fat little cvnt #ripdiego .....and either way, as the 3rd message I received says, he is now Maragonna !!

100 % This For a neutral football fan he was an amazing player when he was in his prime BUT as an England fan, to me he was just a fat cheating, gloating cokehead tw&t...
Maradona on 21:16 - Nov 25 with 2364 views | dirk_doone | A few major trophies would certainly have been won more fairly by more honest teams if VAR had always been around. Saints would have won the league in 1984 for a start and won our European quarter-final against Anderlecht and probably been in the final instead of them. The hand of god goal would just have been exposed as cheating. Maradona would have been booked and the rest would have been a different history. That Tunisian ref wanted Argentina to win that game. You can see from the way he reacted after he awarded the goal. He wouldn't face anyone and looked guilty as hell. [Post edited 25 Nov 2020 21:49]

My daughter is married to a Norwegian and lives in Oslo. Her husband and two sons are football mad (I mean, really). Whilst the boys are dual nationality, the younger one (11 years old) identifies as being English (good lad). When told that Maradona had died he replied, "Good, he was a cheat." I don't expect him to be mature, but I bet plenty of English folk felt a little of that, including me.

For whatever reason, the appointment was never made, with Maradona remaining as Argentina boss until July 2010 Seriously !! They or their former chairman are so full of shit !! Even if this wasn't another Portsmyth, did they honestly expect him to leave his position as Argentina Manager on $1.2m per year, to become Global Ambassador of a small team on the South Coast, that he had never previously heard of, that would go on to finish bottom that season ?

That would be abso-fvcking-lutely ridiculous. He might be a hero in Argentina, but to me he was a fantastic footballer, but also an arrogant, druggie cvnt.
