A challenge for 17th March - how many former U's players can we name from Ireland?

I'll kick off with the obvious pairing...

Mark Kinsella
Joe Dunne

Allan Hunter
Pat Sharkey
Tony McCarthy
Wayne Hannigan
David Greene
Eamonn Collins

David Greene was born in Luton, so technically not 'from Ireland'

I'll add another...

Barry Conlon

Clinton Morrison
John Joe O'Toole
Aidan Davison
Mark Yeates

Incidentally whilst walking to Layer Road many years ago, I spoke to several Irishmen who had come over just to watch Alan Hunter play and were looking forward to seeing Layer Road stadium.

Harsh!

Always liked Barry Conlon, not the best but gave it his all every time he played. Could do with some players like him right now!

Slow day at work today so had time to give this more thought

Ian Stewart
Adrian Coote
Rene Gilmartin
Richard McKinney
Owen Garvan

Sure we had a winger similar size to Chris Fry in late 80's from Ireland,

I had to go through my old programmes to find name and it is

Tommy Keane

Paul McGee is a brilliant shout - completely forgot about him. Didn't we get him from Wimbledon?

Wrong direction trillseeker . Paul McGee was signed by Jock Wallace, several clubs were tempted to sign him from Ireland , but U’s quickly got his signature. Only played few games, the winger was moved on to the crazy gang for about 100k profit almost instantly. Was not a regular at Wimbledon at Plough Lane in the first Division , but stayed for several seasons.
Good call on Tommy Keane, alas a Roger Brown signing, remember the saying regards not how quick you are, it’s what you do with it , well it applies in this case !

Jock Wallace signed Paul McGee from Bohemians, and then after just 3 games for us he signed for Wimbledon, who were in the old First Division at the time, for £150,000.
