The shape of League Two 2021/22 23:36 - May 24 with 2526 viewsdurham_exile

With just two places to be confirmed, the League will look like this:

COL U
FGR
Tranmere*
Salford*
Exeter
Carlisle*
Orient
Crawley
PV*
Stevenage
Bradford*
Mansfield*
Harrogate*
Oldham*
Walsall*
Barrow*
Scunny*
Rochdale*
Northampton
Swindon
Bristol Rovers
Sutton United
Morecambe or Newport
Torquay or Stockport perhaps!

Teams marked with an asterisk denote Away games that i would hope to go to.
Either Morecambe or Stockport could come into the equation!

Doesn't look a strong league surely with the right additions we can challenge to get back to League One!

Maybe even Chesterfield, Durham.
Not likely this season but hopefully some time soon.

Or even Hartlepool Durham giving you a real local game!

Still looks a rugged, difficult league to me Durham with more experience than Mr Mullins. The type of players we manage to acquire will be crucial. It was a strong division this last year with genuine footballing teams like Cheltenham doing well - as we might have - but it often isn't like that and next season looks like it is more likely to contain some pretty stern rough n tumble fixtures like division four tends to.
Up the procurement persuing U's!

Former league clubs Torquay, Stockport, Hartlepool, Notts County and Chesterfield all in the play-offs. Really pleased that money bags Wrexham failed to make them.

Was reading Wrexham were never able to use the investment because of transfer rules which apply to Welsh clubs being different to those applying to English clubs in the National League. All seems a bit bizarre.
We could have the situation where two clubs get promoted who have never been in the EFL before and shows how tough it will he for Southend to escape.
Was surprised next season will be Wrexham's 14th outside the EFL.

My To Do list would be this:

Colchester United* (at some point)
FGR*
Tranmere*
Salford
Exeter*
Carlisle
Orient*
Crawley*
Port Vale
Stevenage*
Bradford
Mansfield*
Harrogate
Oldham
Walsall*
Barrow
Scunthorpe
Rochdale
Northampton*
Swindon*
Bristol Rovers*
Sutton United*

I’m hoping the final two will be Newport and Chesterfield, both of which would be on my travel list, fixture computer and COVID-19 permitting.

Edit: if Chesterfield slip up, Torquay or Bromley would be more than acceptable alternatives.

The North South divide!

Exiled supporters will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy watching Colchester Away.

Durham
&
Wessex

The 24 clubs are fairly evenly spread this season between North and South.

Stockport are the form team in the National League we will soon learn who joins Sutton in League Two.

Fixtures out on June 24th

They made it too. Harsh on Newport apparently, who were the better side for most of the match. Morecambe’s penalty winner was a very poor decision according to the text commentary, and to add insult to injury, Newport had a clearer penalty appeal waved away. Still, if you don’t take your chances, this can happen…

Should Bromley join Sutton going to be a lot of Colchester connections with Mark Cousins as keeper and Andy Woodman as Manager assisted by Ben May!⁸

Stockport County were the form team going into the Play Offs.

I just have a sneak feeling that Edgeley Park will be on the agenda next season.

Got one of my two preferences with Newport staying down. Now backing Chesterfield, or my fall-back option of Torquay.

Derek Adams has left Morecambe to manage Bradford City.

In other League 2 news. Just like Harrogate last season, Sutton have had to dig up their 3G pitch, at a cost of £500k.

Former U's loanee striker Nicke Kabamba has signed for Northampton from Kilmarnock.

Well, my preferred second addition, Chesterfield, fell at the first hurdle, albeit in gut-wrenching circumstances - leading twice and conceding a third bang on 90 minutes, with their only goalkeeper (none on the bench) basically unable to walk for the last 30 minutes. Magpie's now two games away from a return to the football league, but facing a tricky midday kick-off at Torquay next Saturday.

Torquay comfortable winners.

Stockport v Hartlepool on Sunday.

I still think Stockport will go up, but we will wait and see.

My tip for Stockport has gone so a nice local game for me would be Hartlepool (only 45 miles to travel).

Plainmoor or Victoria Park?
