A warm welcome to all members old and new, as the Happy League is about to start its 19th season. Lets hope it is a season back to some sort of normality, with no games being called off due to Covid, and home and aways fans back into stadiums watching games.
There is no need to register for the coming season, as any member who took part last season, will automatically be registered for this season. Just post your predictions to confirm your registration. For any new members thinking about joining, it is a free to enter competition with prizes. You can join just by posting you predictions for Week 1 on this thread.
After consulting with Happy League President MrHappy2, we have decided on a few changes for the coming season. They concern small changes to the Happy Cup and the Charity Shield, that can be seen below. The main change, is not so much a change, it is an additional competition, the Happy Midweek League Cup. Due to a number of postponements last season, we once had a 16 game week, to make up for lost fixtures. It was suggested at the time it would be good to have a six game midweek one instead. It was this suggestion where the idea came for this new competition. The format will be for midweek league fixtures, in one league for all members, then after 100 fixtures the top eight will play in a knockout competition. The 100 games at the league stage will be 10 weeks with 10 fixtures in each one, and also 10 fixtures for each round at the KO stage. The competition will start on Tuesday 17th August, and there will be a prize for the winner. More details will be found on the separate Happy Midweek League Cup thread.
The other competitions are:-
Happy League After two seasons of disruption, this will be back to a 38 Week season again. Fixtures will be 25 weeks of 6 games, and 13 of guest pick 10 games, making 280 in total. There are two divisions, with 12 members in the Premier, and all other members (including newcomers) in Division One. Three to be relegated from the Premier, and three promoted from Division One (the top two automatically, and one from the play-offs). A personalised Colchester United clock for the Premier Champion. The season will start on Friday 6th August. Fixtures can be found below.
After last seasons promotion and relegation the two leagues as they stand at the moment are (In alphabetical order):-
Happy Cup This competition is going back to its original format of being a knockout one only. This is mainly being done because the Midweek League Cup is a league format to begin with, the same as the Happy Cup recently. Replays will also return for drawn games. The 1st Round would ideally have 32 members. If we fail to get this, then to have 16 members for the 2nd Round, there will be three member games, with the two top scorers going through. The competition will start with FA Cup 1st Round fixtures on 6th November. The winner will get a personalised Colchester United mug. All details will be in the Happy Cup thread in October.
Super Cup This is to replace the Charity Shield. It will still have the same qualifiers as the Charity Shield, with an additional four added. The four are 4th place finish in the Premier, Happy Midweek League winner, and Division One Champion and Runner-up. I thought it was time the two who got Division One automatic promotion should be rewarded in some way, and this is it. There will be a prize for the winner.
How the draw works out means what was the former Charity Shield winner will play the winner of the new four in the final. With the quarter-final draw being:-
(1) Premier Champion v Happy Cup Winner
(2) Premier Runner-up v Premier 3rd
(3) Division One Champion v Midweek League Cup Winner
(4) Division One Runner-up v Premier 4th
The Semi-Finals draw will be:-
Winner 1 v Winner 2
Winner 3 v Winner 4
The U'sual Champions League The qualification for this competition will be decided on 1st January (Week 22). Last seasons winner concordman will qualify automatically, the other eleven qualifiers will be the highest point scorers over the two divisions on the aforementioned date. The competition will start on 15th February, when the Champions League knockout stage begins. Again there will be more details on this competition on a separate thread at a later date, to be administrated by wessex_exile.
A reminder of a rule, mainly for any newcomers. That is anybody failing to post their predictions four weeks in a row, will be dismissed from all Happy League competitions. There is no need for this to happen. If you are not going to be around to post your predictions any week, just let me know in advance what default score you require, e.g. all 1-0's, 2-1's etc. Anybody failing to post anything at all will receive no points for that week.
Week 1 Fixtures We start the season with 6 games involving teams that were either promoted or relegated last season. Due to live TV the Bournemouth v WBA fixture has been moved to Friday 19.45, so that is now the weeks deadline. Sorry for an unsatisfactory way to start the season.

As durham said we start with an entertaining game, that had West Brom coming from behind twice to get a draw. Nobody starts the season with a spot-on, but 7 did get a first point on the board with the outcome.
