Week 1 results
AFC BOURNEMOUTH 2 WEST BROMWICH ALBION 2
We started with an entertaining game, that had West Brom coming from behind twice to get a draw. Nobody starts the season with a spot-on, though 7 did get a first point on the board with the outcome.
LUTON TOWN 3 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 0
Peterborough have struggled in the Championship before, and the bookies make them favourites for the drop again. After this performance they look justified, as they were easily brushed aside by Luton. Again nobody got this spot-on, but 18 did have the outcome.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED 1 OXFORD UNITED 1
Cambridge are another team likely to be fighting relegation, after their top scorer from last season decided he would rather play in the non-league this season. They fought back to get a draw in this game with a late penalty, being their only shot on target. The first game to have a 3 pointer this season, well done to the 5 who got that, and nobody had the outcome.
IPSWICH TOWN 2 MORECAMBE 2
With most of the old Ipswich team plying their trade down the A12 now, the new look team have to come from behind twice to get a draw. The second equaliser coming in the 91st minute from ex-U's Bonne. Another game without a 3 pointer this week, though 3 did get the outcome.
FOREST GREEN ROVERS 2 SUTTON UNITED 1
Forest Green get a 91st minute winner, to break the hearts of League newcomers Sutton, having their first shot at League football in their 123-year history. That late goal was good news for the 3 who had this spot-on, and the further 24 who got the outcome
HARTLEPOOL UNITED 1 CRAWLEY TOWN 0
Hartlepool are another team to win with a late winner, on their return to the League, after four seasons away. That 88th minute winner was enough to beat a Crawley team, who failed to have a shot on target. A magnificent 7 benefited from that late goal and got it spot-on, and another 7 also had the outcome.
Welcome back all members from last season, and welcome also to our one newcomer bwildered. It all feels like the real thing once again, with fans allowed back into stadiums with full capacity. It will be interesting to see what effect this will have on results. If the first round of games are anything to go by, then it seems like the home teams are getting the advantage back that the fans give them, as there were only 7 away wins in the 33 EFL games. As for the Happy League, late goals in three games means we ended with three home wins, and three draws. Considering the first games of the season are a bit of a lottery, thanks to those late winners for Forest Green and Hartlepool, it didn't turn out too bad. With 15 spot-ons and 59 outcomes in total, everybody got some points on the board. Three members did well to have two 3 pointers, and two of them share the honour of being the weeks top scorer, they were medicine_man, who had the Cambridge 1-1, and the Forest Green 2-1, and wessex_exile who also got the Cambridge 1-1, and the Hartlepool 1-0. They both also had one outcome, to give them a very decent 7 points. The other member to have two 3 pointers was sevebalo, the wins for Forest Green and Hartlepool, to give him a decent 6 points.
Happy Midweek League Cup Just a reminder to say the first fixtures for this new competition are ready for predicting. All details can be found on the the separate Happy Midweek League Cup thread.
In the Premier Last season was one of the most competitive Premier's there has been, and this season could be the same, if the first week is anything to go by, with only one point separating the top seven. Thanks to the most 3 pointer rule, it is sevebalo taking an ealy lead, just as he did on the first week of last season. On the same number of points, and occupying the next three new Super Cup places, are Sector4, RSCOSWORTH and Daniel. Then it is one point back to noah4x4, mfb_cufc and unitedwhites, who all benefited by having the Hartlepool 1-0 spot-on.
In Division One The weeks top scorers share the automatic places, with medicine_man shading it on the first to post rule from wessex_exile. The leader was second after the first week last season, then gradually faded. He will be hoping to create a potion to last the pace better this time round. There are familiar faces in the play-off spots, with blueeagle looking to make it fourth time lucky, after losing in the play-offs the last three seasons, and durham_exile looking to make up for last seasons play-off disappointment. They are joined in the play-off places by Tropical_Us, who is after a quick return to the Premier, and gsy163, who had an impressive four outcomes. Late goals for Cambridge and Hartlepool stopped him from getting two 3 pointers as well. A solid three outcomes for newbie bwildered, and also for the new franchise MrHappy2, and gerry_us, in his quest to win £100.
