0-2 down HT.
Abysmal half, utterly outplayed.
Ipswich rejects too old/slow.
Zero forward line.
Crowd chanting for Tom Eastman.
No fans bar
No Hotshots
Lowest League Two U’s crowd that I recall.
No catering in East Stand.
HT Queues abysmal in South Stand.
No shuttle buses
Awful match day experience.
Humes, De Souza and Waddington - OUT!

Having a free Saturday after travelling to Tranmere I was persuaded to visit Portman Road with my Ipswich loving best pal. No ticketing bubble nonsense, club shop full of stock, adequate catering, no recruitment issues. Much better match day experience.

Dismal football match, where I sat on my hands in a full Sir Bobby Robson Stand praying for a Shrewsbury result. But credit to Ipswich, they do offer a proper match day experience and travel by public transport is easy. I saw a surprising number of familiar faces amongst the 19,256 and I am convinced we have lost fans to the Tractor Boys. I do know a few that once habitually alternated between the U's and Ipswich that probably now don't bother with the Jobserve, and I can understand why.

Macca Bonne scored again. He has already reached legendary status as "one of their own" having been rejected by Ipswich at age 14. I suspect attitude problems plagued him during his time at the Jobserve and it was interesting to see how he was constantly in the ear of the Shrew' s keeper and defence. Whatever he was muttering was clearly a source of irritation.

The U's don't have a Bonne, Gillespie, Cureton or McGleish worthy of such worship. Our off field match day experience is non-existent. I fear disaster looming after Harrogate put six past Scunthorpe yesterday. Another home defeat will probably be the last straw for many, notably since Paul Cook does seem to be restoring faith amongst the farmers. Cowling, wake up! Waddington, Humes and De Souza out!

Macauley Bonne 2021/22 season to date.

9 goals - joint highest scorer in League 1
1.08 goals per 90 minutes played - highest in League 1 and joint second in the top 4 divisions
Goal conversion rate 47% - third highest in League 1
Shot accuracy 79% - second highest in League 1

Bonne looked the best natural goal scorer we've had since Cureton but barely got a kick. I'm sure there were attitude problems before he requested a transfer but was the poor attitude his or did it belong to those who wouldn't select him on a regular basis.

Bonne's current form and our embarrassing lack of goals over the past few seasons suggest those recruiting players for the club wouldn't recognise a genuine striker if he bit them on the backside...and now Mullins is "not fussed" about scoring goals, which is encouraging.

LB I have constantly bemoaned our appalling treatment of Macca Bonne ever since he was only given 8 minutes a game.

The truth is that even if he had stayed we would have lost him to a higher ranked club. It is irrelevant to bang on about him now. That ship has sailed along with numerous others.

Unless we sign a striker and start to play the youngsters then another season of relegation threatened football will be our reward.

I approached the Tranmere game with great optimism and the journey home was a miserable one.

The club are settling for mediocre and I am afraid to say with RC at the helm we are only going to experience more of the same in uncharted waters.

If Nouble, Sears, etc not scoring we need to give among others starts to see what they can do in my humble opinion.

With no striker, only four proper goals of our own and a quarter of a season played promotion is not likely.

So, Burnsie - absolutely!

We have nothing to lose and everything to gain from your suggestion. I'm surprised it's not been tried already. If it doesn't throw up a striker or at least a formation then we'll have tried and will need to move on to plan C.

I'm afraid our treatment of Bonne still irks me and I suppose it serves us right for our mismanagement, whatever the issues with him allegedly were. Mismanagement has dogged this decline of ours throughout the last seven or so years.

Not just banging on (even though it still annoys) but also considering the efforts of our untouchable recruitment team. If they couldn't see Bonne was worth more opportunities than he was given, and Bonne has shown he was capable, then I have almost zero confidence they will sign a genuine striker any time soon.

How much time was wasted on Richard Kone? Talented, according to many, but incapable of being signed due to immigration issues. I'm involved in recruitment where I work and before anyone is offered an interview we need proof that they are allowed to work in the UK. I'm not an HR specialist but it really isn't that difficult.

So many people refer to the chairman's business interests as a reason why our recruitment should be better but I've never really understood why. Other than the companies associated with club the chairman's empire is based on IT, business support services and property development. Although a number of the companies provide services to recruiters RC is not a director of any recruitment firms. I work in commercial property but I would be the worst possible choice to build a new office block!

Until someone at the club wakes up and realises you need to score goals to win games and that most fans prefer to see their club winning games rather than losing them I don't see a new striker being signed.

I don't think Bonne was mismanaged at all. At the time he wasn't good enough and deserved the limited game time that he got. The club knew he had potential hence why he was offered a new deal that he rejected and went to play non-league football with Orient. I think if he'd have stayed he would've gone on to score goals for us at some point, maybe a season or two down the line but he didn't as he chose to leave. It was his decision, not the club's. I think a player that actually was mismanaged was Chris Porter, he wanted a two year deal and we only offered him one due to his age. He left as he found more security, which he needed at that time in his career, with a three year deal with Crewe. He's since scored goals every season and probably setup quite a few along the way too. Frustrating really when you consider the number of two years deals we've since offered to 30+ year old players.

Agree RSC, the reason Bonne left was he demanded a first team place, which any manager could not guarantee. Saw him several times in the stiffs and was not outstanding. Scoring on your birthday however old does not mean you become a goal machine, has sometimes the service you also receive is a contributing factor , he also went on a loan to a in form Lincoln side and did not pull up any trees there.
Porter would have left in any case has he wanted to return to his roots up North.

Likewise, completely agree. Whilst it is definitely irksome to see a player (eventually) go on to play at a higher level after being released, that is an incredibly rare occurrence. So much so that I'm struggling to think of anyone else other than Macca Bonne?

It's rarely happened with Col U, especially when the club have deemed them not good enough and they've then gone on to prove them wrong. This wasn't the case with Bonne as the club thought he was good enough, just not ready yet, thus why he was offered a new contract. The one player that I can think of is Lawrie Wilson who didn't make a single appearance for us and then went on to have a pretty decent career at first Stevenage and then Charlton. Not really the same as releasing a Lua Lua or a Halford though.

The one that sticks out for me is Freddie Lapado.

I thought he showed great promise in the Essex Senior Cup games that he featured in for the U's, but he too ended up in a greater early career wildeness than Bonne (e.g. non-league and loans) then made his comeback via Crystal Palace, Plymouth and Rotherham, where he remains their record signing.

The U’s record of released players who then made it good, is very low indeed. Perhaps the most successful of released players in the modern era was John Taylor. If fact Steve Wignall resigned him on loan has a target man near the end of his career. Taylor originally was a central midfield player upon his release and then played several years at Sudbury Town before playing for Cambridge Utd in the football league. A not too shabby career scoring over 150 goals.
Just goes to show like Lapado, some players sometimes have to accept to drop down a level to re invigorate their careers, even Bonne.

That's bloody annoying - I always thought John Taylor was an excellent lower league striker (certainly always seemed to score against us) - never realised he was one of ours to begin with.

Crowd tonight merely 2096 despite Saturdays victory. Deduct the Pirates, means home fans under 1,800. When will the club wake up to its bubble/no seat selection ticketing policy, no close public transport and a poor match day experience (no welcoming bar etc) is killing attendances.
0
When will Cowling listen? on 08:27 - Oct 20 with 840 viewsburnsieespana

I imagine these low attendances must have also an effect upon the players who hardly feel at home?

When will Cowling listen? on 16:46 - Oct 22 with 685 viewsRSCOSWORTH

Some Bristol fans were asking what a match permit was and why our ticketing process was so confusing!

It feels like we need some kind of fans stadium experience manager as the the club seems to be alienating fans left, right and centre at the moment and it's not all due to the performances on the pitch.
