Ruben Neves scored a 95th-minute winner as Wolves came from 2-0 down to snatch an incredible victory. In a dramatic final 10 minutes, Wolves scored three times to seal a third straight Premier League win. Nobody got this spot-on, and only Blue4U2 had the outcome. 25 predicted a win for Villa with an unbelievable 19 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

Aleksandar Mitrovic's double, making it 8 goals in his last 6 games, helped Fulham cruise to an impreesive win. Nobody got this spot-on, though 20 did have the outcome.

Coventry fought back from two goals down to earn a deserved point. Again nobody had this spot-on, but 7 did get the outcome.
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2 HULL CITY 0
Huddersfield moved into the top six in the Championship after a goal in each half saw off struggling Hull. A sublime 5 got this spot-on, and another 19 had the outcome.
BOLTON WANDERERS 0 WIGAN ATHLETIC 4
Bolton boss Ian Evatt that his side were the best in the division. Wigan proved otherwise with this thrashing. No 3 pointer for anybody, though 11 did get the outcome.
CAMBRIDGE UNITED 2 IPSWICH TOWN 2
Cambridge were another team this week to come from two goals down to get a draw, after an 88th minute equaliser. Yet another game with no 3 pointer, but 3 did have the outcome.
BRADFORD CITY 2 BRISTOL ROVERS 2
Rovers get a 91st minute equaliser. as they twice came from behind to get a draw. Another game with no spot-on, and again 3 got the outcome. 22 predicted a win for Bradford.
NORTHAMPTON TOWN 2 MANSFIELD TOWN 0
Northampton returned to winning ways with a victory over struggling Mansfield, who have now gone 12 games without a win in all competitions. 4 got this spot-on, and a further 15 had the outcome.
OLDHAM ATHLETIC 3 STEVENAGE 0
Oldham notched their first home win of the league season in some style. A final game this week with no 3 pointer, though 8 did get the outcome.
Ealier this week noah4x4 gave some reasons why the Happy League results have been unpredictable, and had produced a large number of draws. After reading this it had me wondering if this was also how the season had gone in general. Looking at how the season has gone so far (as at 9/10/21) in the four English leagues, they showed the following results:- From 465 games played there has been 202 Home wins (43.44%), 127 Away wins (27.31%), and 136 Draws (29.25%). Those figures are much in line with how previous seasons have gone in the Happy League, so this season has certainly gone against the grain so far, and probably just goes to show we have been unlucky with the fixtures.
As we approached the final stages of this weeks games, it looked like things had changed for the good, with Villa, Ipswich and Bradford all leading 2-1. But late goals from their opponents meant a potential 34 spot-ons became nil in those three games. In fact we ended with no 3 pointer in seven games overall. In the other three games the 2-0 wins for Huddersfield and Northampton gave us the first results with that score this season. So another tough week with only 11 spot-ons in total, and it was left to the 109 outcomes to make sure everybody got some points. Just one member had two 3 pointers, that was mfb_cufc, who got the wins for Chelsea and Huddersfield, plus three outcomes to make him the weeks top scorer with a useful 9 points. Best of those to get one 3 pointer was thrillseeker, who had the Chelsea 1-0 and five outcomes, to give him a decent 8 points. A special mention for Pinault_Noir, who had an impressive seven outcomes. The three 2-2's today means that result has taken over as the top one this season with 11. Two more than the next best the 0-0 and 1-1, as the draw continues to dominate the season.

In the Premier Four outcomes for RSCOSWORTH takes his spell at the top to 8 weeks, but his lead is cut again, as basher2010 gets the Huddersfield 2-0 spot-on, to reduce it to a still useful 9 points. The top scoring performance from mfb_cufc moved him five places into third. Five outcomes for sevebalo were enough for him to remain in the Super Cup places. The only other member to get a 3 pointer in this division was Daniel, the Huddersfield 2-0, and he moves up a place to fifth. With just outcomes for all other members, the only significant change had TheFatGooner dropping three places.
In Division One It is all about outcomes for the top five places, with five for Tropical_Us doubling his lead at the top, as gerry_us can only manage three in the other automatic place, and bring an end to his good run of getting at least one 3 pointer in the previous seven weeks. Up two places into third with his impressive seven outcomes is Pinault_Noir. Five outcomes for Lewis_1 and six for blueeagle, but they both drop a place. Back up into the final play-off spot goes MrHappy2, after he had the Huddersfield 2-0 spot-on. Up another place, and only missing out on the play-offs by the first to post rule, is wessex_exile, after he got the Northampton 2-0 spot-on. That same 3 pointer also for medicine_man, and he also moves up a place. The pre-season favourite thrillseeker could finally be getting his act together, and his decent week moved him up two places, and only 6 points from the play-offs. With a 3 pointer for third week running, the Northampton 2-0, oxfcolu is the biggest mover in this league, up three places. That same 3 pointer also for gsy163, means he has also had one for the last three weeks, and even though he is still bottom, he is well in touch with the pack now.

Interesting statistics Mick that the number of league draws overall are normal yet 2 - 2, 1 -1 and 0 - 0 are (so far) overly dominant compared to such normality amid the the narrower Happy League selections. But if I now start forecasting draws it suggests there will be a correction making my plight worse. It just shows the importance of "statistical significance". Does anybody else get annoyed at adverts that claim "75% of women agree" then the small print confirms "based on a sample of 80" which is ridiculously small compared to an adult female population of 30+ million!

If you have a successful strategy you have to stick with it, whether it is predicting the results of football matches, or anything else in life. To start predicting draws would probably make your plight worse. You have to realise why you don't predict them in the first place. There could be a correction, but it might not happen. I got relegated in the 2011/12 season because there was a high number of draws throughut the season. In the 30 games played in the Midweek League Cup so far we have had 13 Homes (43.33%) 8 Aways (26.67%) 9 Draws (30%). Even though that is a very small example, those percentages are incredibly the same as the 465 games played in total this season. | |
