Freddie Sears - The Best (most important) Striker In England 17:56 - Jan 21 with 567 viewsRSCOSWORTH

I’m not sure anyone is going to agree with the title of this post but you can pretty much prove anything with stats. Obviously Freddie’s nine goals in the league doesn’t even come close to Mitrovic’s 27 for Fulham, Stewart’s 18 for Sunderland, Telford’s 18 for Newport or Salah’s 16 for Liverpool. It’s probably safe to assume though that it’s much easier to hit the back of the net regularly when you’re playing for a free scoring Fulham or Liverpool but what if you’re playing for a shot and goal shy team like say Colchester United? Well then your percentage of your team’s goals becomes the key stat and that is where Freddie reigns supreme.

Freddie has scored nine of our measly 19 goals this season, a whopping 47%. This is better than any other player at one of the other 91 clubs in the league.

The Top 10

Player Team Goals Team Goals %
F Sears Colchester United 9 19 47%
C Stockton Morecambe 16 35 46%
B Brereton Blackburn Rovers 20 44 45%
Dominic Telford Newport Co 18 42 43%
D Solanke Bournemouth 18 43 42%
J Piroe Swansea City 11 27 41%
A Mitrovic Fulham 27 70 39%
A Weimann Bristol City 12 32 38%
M Cornet Burnley 6 16 38%
E Dennis Watford 8 23 35%

Salah, arguably the best footballer in the world right now, is way behind Freddie with 29% and Ronaldo, who could be the best footballer of all time, is even further back on 23%. Proof, if any was needed, that as well as being the best striker in the country Freddie Sears is in fact the best footballer on the planet.

Can't argue with stats RS, top work. Of course, by implication that suggests we're bottom of the league for goals contributed by others than our top scorer, but lets not dwell on that. It does go to show just how important he is to the U's survival, so hope he doesn't get crocked. Ironically, it is mathematically possible we'll get that legendary 20-goals per season striker, whilst being relegated in the process
