Happy League 2022/23 Week 1 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 30th July 15.00 17:24 - Jul 8 with 2564 viewsmfb_cufc

A warm welcome to all members old and new, as the Happy League is about to start its 20th season. The 2022/23 season will be a unique one with the World Cup being held from late-November to mid-December, making it the first tournament not to be held in May, June, or July. There will be no Premier League fixtures, and limited Championship fixturess, at the time of the tournament, but it will not affect the Happy League competitions.

There is no need to register for the coming season, as any member who took part last season, will automatically be registered for this season. Just post your predictions to confirm your registration. For any new members thinking about joining, it is a free to enter competition with prizes. You can join just by posting you predictions for Week 1 on this thread.

The five competitions are:-

Happy League This is a 38 Week season. Fixtures will be 25 weeks of 6 games, and 13 of guest pick 10 games, making 280 in total. There are two divisions, with 12 members in the Premier, and all other members (including newcomers) in Division One. Three to be relegated from the Premier, and three promoted from Division One (the top two automatically, and one from the play-offs). A personalised Colchester United clock for the Premier Champion. The season will start on Saturday 30th July. Fixtures can be found below.
After last seasons promotion and relegation the two leagues as they stand at the moment are (In alphabetical order):-

Happy Cup This competition is to remain in its original format as a knockout one. There will be replays for drawn games. The 1st Round would ideally have 32 members. If we fail to get this, then to have 16 members for the 2nd Round, there will be three member games, with the two top scorers going through. The competition will start with FA Cup 1st Round fixtures on 5th November. The winner will get a personalised Colchester United mug. All details will be in the Happy Cup thread sometime in October.

Happy Midweek League Cup This was a new competition last season, and overall I thought it worked out well, with most members in with a chance of the knockout stage all through the qualifying period. The downside for me was that four members dropped out at an early stage, and another commented that we didn't need another competition. After taking everything into consideration, I will give it another go this season. With the World Cup taking place during the season, it has made things difficult to get enough fixtures, so I thought to give an added interest in the World Cup we would have two lots of fixtures from that tournament. That will allow me to stick by last seasons format of having 10 x 10 game weeks for the qualifying period. There will be one division of all members, with the top 8 after the 100 games qualifying for the Quarter-Finals, with 10 games to be played on 14th February. The Semi-Finals to be 10 games played on 14th March. With the final on Easter Monday 10th April. First fixtures for this competition will be on 16th August.

Super Cup This is an end of season competition for the top perfomers.

The Quarter-Finals with 10 fixtures on 22nd April will be:-

(1) Premier Champion v Division One Runner-up
(2) Premier Runner-up v Division One Champion
(3) Premier 3rd v Midweek League Cup Winner
(4) Premier 4th v Happy Cup winner

The Semi-Finals with 10 fixtures on 29th April will be:-

Winner 1 v Winner 4
Winner 2 v Winner 3

The Final will be 10 fixtures on 6th May.

The U'sual Champions League The qualification for this competition will be decided on 1st January (Week 23). Last seasons winner RSCOSWORTH will qualify automatically, the other eleven qualifiers will be the highest point scorers over the two divisions on the aforementioned date. The competition will start on 14th February, when the Champions League knockout stage begins. There will be more details on this competition on a separate thread at a later date, to be administrated by wessex_exile.

A reminder of a rule, mainly for any newcomers. That is anybody failing to post their predictions four weeks in a row, will be dismissed from all Happy League competitions. There is no need for this to happen. If you are not going to be around to post your predictions any week, just let me know in advance what default score you require, e.g. all 1-0's, 2-1's etc. Anybody failing to post anything at all will receive no points for that week.

Week 1 Fixtures For the seasons first fixtures I am going back to my original idea of having games involving the East Anglian teams.

CARDIFF CITY v NORWICH CITY
LUTON TOWN v BIRMINGHAM CITY
CAMBRIDGE UNITED v MILTON KEYNES DONS
CHELTENHAM TOWN v PETERBOROUGH UNITED
IPSWICH TOWN v BOLTON WANDERERS
NORTHAMPTON TOWN v COLCHESTER UNITED

Good luck everybody.
