True, and that is one reason admission to Castle Park is free.
This Essex women’s T20 fixture is targeting a completely different audience and the event is being supported by Colchester & East Essex Cricket, Colchester Rugby Club and Essex Rebels Basketball and Volleyball in a sporting extravaganza for youngsters (and their Dads). There is lots of engagement with local schools (and similar) and wider sporting activities for the kids. Also Bouncy Castle (etc) for the tiny tots. | | | |

Just a word of thanks to the many Col Utd fans that supported this event.
A crowd that we estimate was greater than is typical at Chelmsford for Women’s cricket supported this event, and that’s despite competition from the men’s Championship fixture. Admittedly it was free admission and free parking, but Colchester & East Essex CC enjoyed decent bar, catering and raffle revenue which helps us continue the local development of junior and community cricket, that has successfully produced Essex stars like Charlie Allison, Simon Fernandes, Ben Allison (now with Worcs), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Tom Blundell (New Zealand), Reece Topley (England) and many more.
On Sunday, CEECC had two female representatives in the Essex Women’s team that convincingly defeated Gloucestershire, Esmae MacGregor and Bella Johnson. Despite their absence, Colchester Women retained the Essex Hundred Cup!
This Saturday, the Men’s First XI entertain Hornchurch CC (start 11:00). Both teams have players with FCC experience. Free admission, free parking, ‘club priced’ Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and various Adnams beers (bottled), plus Level Head, Stumps, Inches and other club priced keg drinks.
It’s a great FREE afternoon of sport, only just below First Class standard. | | | |
