In the context of the ongoing World Cup, what if you were Robbie Cowling and could remortgage/ sell everything you own, call in all the debts, clear out down the back of the sofa, win EuroMillions, even liquidate JobServe if needs be, and somehow have enough to buy one single world class footballer.
Everyone else would be the usual mix of seasoned pros, talented youngsters and loans.
Who would you buy, and would it make a difference to next season?
I'd give Mbappe a go - still young enough, and surely he would have a significant impact on our XG stat conversions? Would it be enough for promotion? I think it might.
My choice wouldn’t be any of the England starters tonight. Slow, ponderous, too negative. Kane anonymous. Tuchel should have brought on Watkins to add some pace.
My choice, Erling Harland. Imagine the South Stand Norwegian rowing.

I’d be tempted by the Ghana back line as a job lot though, made us look like right chumps.
At the moment Col U have no goalkeeper signed for the 2026/27 season, so Emi Martínez from Argentina/Villa would be a good start.
However, I have full faith in the Cowleys being able to sign a decent enough goalkeeper for League 2 (either free or on loan), so I wouldn't waste my Euro Millions win on him.
I think that it is safe to say that our problems for the last 20 odd seasons is having a regular goalscorer that can last the season, so I would go for Haaland - out and out Number 9 who doesn't move too far away from the 18 yard box and is physical enough for League 2. Can help with attacking and defending set-pieces!
Cowling sign him up if you want your last decision at Col U be the best one for Col U!

“One single world class footballer” is doing some pretty heavy lifting there, but I’d still gladly take him!
Top defending from Payne for Belgium's first goal (Trossard from a corner) - he would fit right in with our set-piece defending from the last few years
Turns a very average team into a slightly better team.
Was the difference for England getting knocked out in the Round of 16, rather than the Round of 32. Could be the difference of The U's finishing 10th instead of 12th!
