I'm with you on this one Noah - the rule is that a player can stay off the pitch to avoid being involved in the active play at that time. As soon as the goalie put the ball back on the ground, it's game back on. Incidentally, a good friend was at that match, supporting Northampton, even he thought it was comical but fair dos.
Does the ungentmanly conduct law still exist, or dangerous play unto yourself ?
Strange that during the World Cup and nearer to the final you got, the so called experts started saying players should not get yellow or red cards early on in games, particularly from quarters onwards has it would ruin games has a spectacle, but Messi should have got a straight red in a group game, but somebody turned a blind eye to. Remember Kevin Moran being the first player to be sent off, ( or has the saying back in the day - trumped ! ) in the FACup final, and the shock of it, and even Jack Taylor giving the Germans a penalty in the early mins in the World Cup final, both correct by the law but shock because of the occasion.
