To Durham and any others from here that attended the Hartlepool match

Taken from the CUFC OMB

Hi Chaps,

The Gazza are looking for the names of all the 62 that went last night. I have given most of who I stood with last night and a few others.
Just drop James an e-mail - james.cox@nqe.com

I hear the Hartlepool Gazette had requested something very similar....

Results...3,148 turned up.....(official statistics)...

62 U's fans were accounted for in Colchester Gazette Survey.

10 declined as they had got in free disguised as St John's Ambulance Men.
3 declined as they were disguised as mascots.
120 declined because they had told their wives they were working late.
147 declined because their mistress thinks they were working late
270 declined because their boss thinks they were working late.
200 declined because their boss thinks they are off sick.
175 declined because they were present with somebody elses wife.
175 declined because they were with somebody elses husband.
560 declined because they were claiming benefits for which they were ineligible.
560 declined because they were claiming to be the carer of the aforesaid.
118 declined because they are on the Police wanted list.
60 declined because they are in the Country illegally.
40 declined because they were using another's non-transferable season ticket.
87 declined because they had climbed in over the gates.
240 declined because they had snook in on kids tickets.
286 declined because the wife doesn't know about the pay-day loan for the ticket.

In summary, the Hartlepool Gazette ultimately reported that no Hartlepool Fan attended (and given the U's 62 out sang them, that sounds about right).

I wonder how many of our 62 remain unaccounted for....and the likely reasons!

On a more serious note, I once went to a cricket match having told my (now) ex-wife and ex-boss I was working. Then I stupidly caught the ball on TV.

What's the best lie you have told to attend a footie match and did you get caught?

Anonymous replies accepted (this won't go to the Gazette) but you can snitch on others! I suspect this thread might be fun!

Wouldn't say it was a lie per se, but I did deliberately re-arrange a timetable for a client's project specifically so I could combine a site visit with being one of the 53 at Cardiff on that Tuesday night when I recall it was Joe Dunne I think who's equaliser nearly cost us our lives...

Good one Wessex. Hope you charged him for a overnight stay.

Not a footie story, but I did arrange my marriage to occur on the 8th of the 8th in 2008. "How romantic; a once in a century opportunity and a date we can never forget", said my new wife; e.g. lucky Chinese 8; Chinese Buffet; first day of the Beijing Olympics, we put up a marquee; hired the 'Lucky Eight' casino (for evening fun) to entertain our guests; whilst the blokes came dressed as 'James Bond', and the ladies as 'Pussy Galore'; a wonderful day and I secured a wonderful wife (to whom I never have to lie or make excuses when I want to go to footie).

Fortunately, she didn't seem to mind too much when she realised it was a Friday and I had been selected to play cricket on the Saturday (honeymoon departure arranged for the Monday)!

I was one of the 53 Wessex.
What a goal that was and indeed I scuttled away super fast as I feared for my soul.
Their 'fans' also stripped bodywork from cars in their car park that were awaiting the next stage of the RAC Rally. I recall the look on the faces of some frenchmen from the Peugeot team who had simply no concept of how the worst of football 'fans' can behave.
I wanted to move to France on the spot.

This is what we want, proper witness statements and/or confessions!

...............Cardiff Police are reopening the files as we speak.

Seems strange though that the French shut the Channel Tunnel for a lorry load of lambs - but not for Welsh truckers carrying a load of leeks.
