Barnsley to get the chop at WHCS this weekend 11:41 - Dec 11 with 1023 viewsdurham_exile

After the dramatic FA Cup win against the Robins last week, Wayne Brown knows that another WHCS win is required against improving Barnsley. The Lee Johnson's Tykes defeated Wigan and now face a JPT Northern Final against the Cod Army for a Wembley appearance.

Whilst the 3rd round draw left everyone underwhelmed, WB is well aware of the importance of this Saturday's game. Whilst you cannot be relegated in December, it is all about climbing away from the bottom four and three points is absolutely vital against the Yorkshire side.

Good news this week that Alex Wynter is almost ready for a first team outing, perhaps Boxing Day against Scummend. In the meantime Richard Brindley is looking really sharp and has been sorely missed. It is too early for Owen Garvan but Darren Ambrose and Tom Lapslie are vying for starts in the new WB era. I expect RC to make the announcement as early as Saturday evening regarding the new manager.

WB is unlikely to make drastic changes to the team and something along these lines will be the
preferred choice:

Jones

Brindley Eastman Elokobi Briggs

Edwards Moncur Gilbey

Harriott Sordell Massey

Subs

Parish Olufemi Kent Lapslie Sembie-Ferris Porter Wright

Attendances have been poor of late but a consistent run of results will see things improve ahead of the Boxing Day shootout against our Essex fiends.

Enjoy the match.

Garvan played 45 minutes for the U21s and could be on the bench tomorrow. Vincent-Young also played.

Wynter is expected to play for the U21s next week so he may be ready for the Essex derby.

I couldn't make it to the match, today. How lucky am I?

I was pleased to see the WB hadn't made wholesale changes, but, Oh Deary Me!

First half possession 19%. 9 fouls conceded as against Tykes' 2. Only two shots at goal - neither on target. If scores remain unchanged we'll be only one from bottom.

Let's hope WB's half-time talk inspires a substantial improvement.

PWK certainly needs some inspirational half time chatter.

Next goal is vital.

First half was as poor a performance as you will see anywhere. Now, fair play to Brown. He made the half time change to go two up front and it began to work. Taking one of the midfield out (although imo it was the wrong one he took off, Edwards was at least making some tackles - Gilby on the other hand......). Humes wouldn't have made that substitution, neither would he have played two up. He also wouldn't have switched to a more direct style which actually put the visiting back four under pressure and played to Porter's strengths, we'd have carried on going sideways and backwards and giving the ball away until five minutes to go when he'd make a straight swap in midfield. Brown even said it on the radio afterwards (to paraphrase) "sometimes you do it because it works" and today it nearly salvaged a point from a shambles.

Does it get Brown the job? Based on what RC has said so far, probably. In fact, he's probably got it already. Right decision? Well, we were thoroughly unconvincing on Sunday and outplayed for an hour by the bottom side today so we'll have to wait and see.

Two up front for the second half, scored 2, hit the bar and missed two chances that defied logic. Moncur dropped deeper, had more space and time and looked so much more dangerous as a result. We looked so much more threatening playing 4-4-2. Scrap the poxy system we played under Humes and we might stay up.

Brown must have ruined his chances, if he's not going to follow Chairman C's little blue and white book.

Wayne Brown was more proactive in changing things around , but had no choice . Not sure bringing Bonn on for Massey worked ( unless Massey took a knock ) .
Dispute his inexperience at present Vincent -Young looks like the best defender to come out the youth /academy set up for years ( wonder if anybody consider him at centre half ) .
Playing 4-4-2 opened up the midfield, which seemed easier to work the ball wider quicker, than with five which slowed down switching play more static .
At three down, we're million miles away from a point, but finally with several near misses could have made it.
