Happy League 2017/18 Week 37 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 15.00 22:38 - Apr 14 with 3117 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 36 Results

HUDDERSFIELD 1 WATFORD 0

Huddersfield get a first win in six with their first shot on target in the 91st minute. A decent 6 got this spot-on, and another 2 had the outcome. There were 7 who predicted a 1 all draw, in what was equally the weeks most predicted result.

SWANSEA 1 EVERTON 1
Swansea have conceded 13 own goals in the Premier League since 2014-15; five more than any other side, after another one today. There were 2 who had this spot-on, and 4 more got the outcome.

BARNSLEY 2 OLDHAM 2
A 93rd minute equaliser for Barnsley keeps their hopes of avoiding relegation alive. Nobody got this spot-on, and just 2 had the outcome.

BURY 2 NORTHAMPTON 3
Bury were relegated to League Two following this defeat, as Northampton's 88th minute winner kept their slim survival hopes alive. Well done to eagledares for being the only one to have this spot-on, though 12 did get the outcome.

OLDHAM 1 GILLINGHAM 1
Gillingham scored a controversial 92nd minute penalty to snatch a draw. Only 2 got this spot-on, and just 1 more had the outcome.

GRIMSBY 2 BARNET 2
A late penalty earned Grimsby a crucial point against their League Two relegation rivals. Nobody had this spot-on, though 3 did get the outcome. There were 13 who predicted a win for Grimsby, with 7 going for a 1-0, in what was the weeks other most predicted result.

Another week where late goals have made all the difference to the final outcomes. Especially at Huddersfield, where 6 members would have been pleased with their late winner, and at Oldham with the 6 having them to win 1-0 losing out to an off the ball penalty decision. In the end it was only that Huddersfield win that saved this week from being a disaster, with the four draws getting little support. Overall not a bad return of 11 spot-ons, but only 24 outcomes, with half of them coming from Northampton, still made this a tough week. In fact 6 members were grateful for that Northampton outcome to save them getting a blank week. Also not a good week for those looking to get points to put pressure on the leaders of each division, as it was the ones at the summit who produced the weeks top scores. With gerry_us leading the way by having the Huddersfield 1-0 and the Oldham 1-1 spot-on, and with one outcome, he is the weeks top scorer with a decent 7 points. Very good performances also from thrillseeker and gsy163, who both got 6 points for having the Huddersfield 1-0 and the Swansea 1-1 spot-on.

In the Premier Tick-tock, tick-tock, thrillseeker can almost hear the sound of another clock to add to his collection, as he takes a big step on his way to a third title, with another two spot-ons. This leaves him needing 3 more for a season record. With an average of one every 7.43 games, it is now an even money shot he does it. That late Huddersfield winner saved noah4x4 from having a blank week, but he is now probably going to require a couple of double figure scores to have any chance of a first Premier title. The decent week for gsy163 keeps him in contention for a Charity Shield spot. At the bottom the battle for that final relegation spot took another twist, with Sector4 occupying it again after that late Gillingham equaliser gave Gate16 a 3 pointer, and takes him that same number of points clear of trouble.

In Division One That top scoring effort from gerry_us has now made him odds on for automatic promotion. But the other spot is far from clear with durham_exile continuing to match the U's slump in form, just holding on by virtue of more 3 pointers from eagledares, who has that current buzz word momentum, helped by getting 3 points for that good Northampton 3-2 prediction. The one to lose out here should have the consolation of making the play-offs. But who will join them is still no clearer than it has been all season. That late Huddersfield winner helped Daniel to stay in contention for one of those spots. At the bottom Blue4U2 was another to benefit from the Huddersfield 1-0, and after being bottom since Week 4 he may avoid the wooden spoon after all.

THE TABLES (260 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Week 37 Fixtures The first of two big 10 game weeks to finish the season, picked by this weeks guest Daniel. With things still close in both divisions, don't forget no more than four predicted scores the same as your nearest opponent(s) please. The fifth one upwards will be declared void.

Nah, just efficiency of typing. Genuinely think all will be narrow home victories except for the two big guns. Also forces Thrillseeker to shoot for more goals given the limited number of matches rule. In a low scoring week might be tactical genius????

But I doubt it.

Applauds Thrillseeker. A truly sporting honest set of predictions.

I thought you might tactically go for all home wins to guarantee a point wherever I get one. But your away choices and propensity for three goal matches (2-1; 1-2) makes this a far more interesting week.

This could now go to the wire, or my challenge will fizzle this weekend in a (Happy 1-0) whimper. But it's been a super season (top marks to mfb-cufc).

Noah - no fun in being tactical.

I always predict after any midweek fixtures (unless on holiday) and go with what I feel will be

It will indeed be an interesting weekend

Agree it has been a super season and good fun

I would also like to offer my gratitude and thanks to Mick for running a superb prediction league
