The very best of luck to you all in the HPL this coming season.
Ahead of Saturday I also send my love and best wishes to our club in the hope we can have an easier season.................kinder to the supporters, the true supporters, especially those of you on here.

I have limited internet now and will not regain it for a long time as I have to live in furnished holiday accommodation until I finally drive to France for real. An awkward couple of months but needs must. This way I can dump the mortgage which runs 'til I'm 78!

My very best wishes to all of you - especially you gsy163 - and I will be thinking of you and trying to visit here when I can. My aim is to return to this board but timing's dependent upon fitting all the connections to an old barn in the very middle of nowhere with a step 5 non league club for me 6 miles down the road! So....it could be a while before I can rejoin you all and indeed kickstart my business.

I will return to bore you all again,

Up the U's
But moreover "Up YOU"

Forgive me Happs...................

With things as they are, having probably sold me house it looks as though I'll not be able to participate this season for fear of messing up the organisers so........

Here's to the 16-17 season.

Firstly - to Wessex and Whalers - BRILLIANT thread thank you and the participants very much indeed!

Music and mirth - an antedote to an increasingly sick world. Well, not the world but some of the people on it.

And so to week 8 and something which just lifts me above negativity because it's good and clever and dateless and I am grateful for it...............

Agree Whalers.

He came to my teacher training place once and the gig was excellent including your selection!

Yes Pete - you've got the right MAN!

Lovely tale Wessex and a good choice - Knopfler was a decent primary school teacher too I believe!!

And right with you on Buckingham's guitar playing - he's one of the greats [as he will tell you....] and Mac live are superb. Still prefer things like @Oh Well' when Peter Green was with 'em. When I began teaching in old Sarfend in the 80s he'd sit in a bar in Westcliff anonymously. Welcome back to lg 1 to that lot who I don't mind at all having seen lots of good gigs in that area. Saw MAN in Ipswich a couple of times but that's enough about that place.

We like Pat but it's too much for us mate. The house deserves more than we can pay.
It' slightly SW of the zone we're looking which is the Limousin, southern Indre and southern Vienne - the cheapest area of France. Still for sale here and need to sell to buy.

HahaWessex!
Yes you have researched well. Tim Rose left us long ago and his came first. I always enjoyed the Grateful Dead version though. Thank you, I am glad it was a good choice.

This thread is almost as challenging as each picture I do and interestingly although music is my sole partner in the Studio I regularly silence it in order to concentrate and what I am doing!

I doubt my last 3 selections will connect quite so well as "Strangely strange...." & "Morning dew" but if it's week 5 yet [?].................

I humbly submit "July Morning" by Uriah Heep.

Right.................back to work!

Thank you again fp.

We'll have a look at it. It's only a stone's throw from the Limousin which is included in our area. You are right, rural places are good value and am happy to consider it.

Ooops, you're right Wessex.
Have changed the circle - it's sort of heart shaped now is that OK?

Hallo fatpat,

Thank you for thinking of me. We know the Dordogne - it may be too pricey for us.
We have a circle drawn on a map in the kitchen which only encircles southern Vienne, Haute-Vienne, eastern Charente and Creuse. We have seen one in Creuse which would do but we need to sell this one here on the Wight Island!
Where in Dordogne fatpat?

Aha....had you hunting did it!
It is indeed 'right up there' Wessex and I never overlook stuff from that era when lots of good music never came over the airwaves and is only really being uncovered now. Thank the Lord for dear old Brian Matthew. Saturday mornings often turn up something to add to my 'virtual album' now with 137 tracks. Altho' I'm a 6Music fan when working in my studio Radio 2 still delivers.

This thread really is a good idea and it's so tricky to get down to 8 !
I was going to have Joy Division's 'Love will.....' but now the June Tabor version is on here I'll choose something else.

The rest of that album by Dr Strangeley Strange is tidy too Wessex.
Right back to some Horslips live now.............

Yes Wessex I'll aim to be posting asap once I move [autumn maybe]. I am not altogether sure I could post with the handles you have just suggested - how can I possibly top those !! Epic!

It's kind of weird really but like you one has to do what one has to do.
One of my last deputy heads I appointed came from Calne and his family still like living there but I also like Warminster so I understand a bit of your emotions. At least the ghastly Swinedon game is still close. Horrid place.
Anyway I am sure you're right and a quiet corner of France will inspire my silkscreen and I'll have to tottle off to the Maire to ask how I go about selling and paying their taxes!
A little bar will also do the trick and I have unearthed several artisan [proper] brewers in the not too far flung vicinity!

But I will return to the HL for sure and iindeed your blog idea is a goodun.
All very odd for a quiet bloke from Castle Hedingham .............

Frenchbarside?
Lost in France CUFC ?

I'll keep thinking on

The band that's most difficult to 'pigeon-hole' Whalers. And that's the way they like it.
Of >150 gigs I have seen they remain the best live band of all .

Live prog can/could be very good {MME/Family/Gentle Giant/Camel/Uriah Heep} with frequent support bands outdoing the main. A good example was when I saw Chris de Burgh with little backing and a huge hall show the door to the ineffectual Supertramp.

But this thread has some splendid stuff on it already. Grand idea Sir !

TRYING TO CATCH UP.

Great idea Whales and my list is now down to 60!

Here's my first three so I'm not behind.

week 1 :- "Strangely strange but oddly normal" Dr. Strangely Strange

week 2:- "Division bell" Pink Floyd [you're not alone Wessex]

week 3:- "Living in the past" Jethro Tull

Thank you Wessex.
Thank you for the encouragement. It's needed as it is a big deal. Hadn't thought of it as brave but I spose it is. Yes, the landscapes will appeal and make creative demands and at least everything costs so much less and there'll be no mortgage. Praps I will make it to Cuckoo Farm a few times!

I see your dilemma and a dilemma it is to leave Salisbury which is a very nice place. whatever you do it's the planning and how you plan that effects the success I reckon. So I can see you making a masterful switch even if it feels uncomfortable now. I wish you well with it.
Wessex is a very decent part of England - half my family came from north east Dorset!

I'll be on here for a bit yet as this place needs to sell before I can act.

In the meantime Up the Usual!
