Ins for 21/22 season
at 12:56 16 Jun 2021

I just see them as signings and wish them well. I've no time for ipswich but these will be our players now and several from up the road have been good signings before.
Experienced players have been needed, possibly even to better understand the inexperienced management so I am pleased with what we've done and the look of Mullins' number two. Sears is sort of unknown at lg two levels and he might be a surprise to us even if personally he wasn't one that I was keen on. Would be keen to give the Maidenhead lad a go too but Frank returning may reduce the options.
So far so good, exiting lg two for LG one is the priority and I'm not bothered how or who.

The shape of League Two 2021/22
at 13:24 25 May 2021

Still looks a rugged, difficult league to me Durham with more experience than Mr Mullins. The type of players we manage to acquire will be crucial. It was a strong division this last year with genuine footballing teams like Cheltenham doing well - as we might have - but it often isn't like that and next season looks like it is more likely to contain some pretty stern rough n tumble fixtures like division four tends to.

Difficult thing to do this year.
Management was unconvincing and player response was all wrong a lot of the time. We may never know the root cause.

In consequence I'd rather say, Tom Eastman has an OK year, for a very young lad Chilvers did very well and our keepers weren't bad. The emergence of Tchamadeu was encouraging and I hope there will be others like him, whilst Wiredu was a positive signing and crucial late influence to our survival. Lad just needs to learn how to shoot.
Thassall I'm afraid!
Hope it's better next time. Ghastly circumstances for everyone but other teams have very clearly approached it all much better than we for some reason.

U's Reveal Retention List
at 12:36 15 May 2021

Yes Burnsie he knew he was off or else he'd never have made those well reported comments about his love for all things Cheltenham and that he 'could see himself back there'.
In lg two I believe you need a Pell type in the side and I hoped he'd stay longer but analytically he was not in the top ten quality footballer wise in the squad, far too many errors etc and he was always a red card in the waiting so I can live with it. Mullins has a big job ahead because shaping so much that is going to be new and unknown alongside promising youngsters from Tiptree in a lingering pandemic will be challenging. I like to think that it may be a worse time for other clubs given our Chairman 's statements but we don't know that for sure. Yes, there seem to be a lot of footballers released but no club has subsided yet. Hopefully none will.

U's Reveal Retention List
at 12:44 14 May 2021

Am personally unsurprised by the list. I predicted Pell who I reckon will be at Cheltenham soon. Some I'm delighted to see the back of but the downside of such a big clear out is the danger in re-creation. Mullins has quite a task.

Maybe Tchamadeu and Tolvide have gone elsewhere like young Miller did Durham?

The Ipswich three will add some experience for a season I suppose and at presumably affordable salaries. Nouble is an enigma and has rarely been played as/where he should. He's expensive and I think I'd sign his brother first.

A fit Lapslie will be missed, not sure about the others. Early days yet before we see who can be persuaded to join the 4-6-0 team who always try to protect one-nil leads and usually cannot.

Yes, sign Ross, he's far too good for Weymouth, the Non Lg Paper constantly raves about his performance level.

Prenton Park hosts the super U's today in Season Finale
at 15:21 8 May 2021

Agreed. As I said on another thread, Pell's probably rejoining Cheltenham - he's hinted at it - & it's a LG above where our players always seem to do better than with us. Harriott, ditto and if Stevenson (our highest paid) joined a LG 1 side it would all fit. I would not miss the three of them who underwhelm, are often injured and have not offered as much as they did previously.

Hmmm.

Harriott's agent has probably got a LG 1 side for him, Pell will be back to Whaddon Rd like a shot now they're in lg 1. He has as good as said as much previously. If I'm right and I'm usually not, the club will know and select accordingly.

And it may work Wesser.
Solihull Moors have come a long way in a very short time. Amalgamation of Solihull and the old defunct Moor Green whom I watched at Tiverton in my season ticket days there. Sm are now just outside the National Lg P/Offs and I fully support looking at proven non lg success. It can and does translate to the league, Vardy probably being the best of recent times. I have nothing against us doing business like this if Tiptree cannot provide what we need. In truth, it hasn't recently. Promise, yes, but full first team certs, not really. Tchamadeu, Chilvers and maybe Sayer and Tolvide, but we need a management brave enough to try them or at least a very demanding and meaningful pre-season set of competitive games. Mix young promise with a little more experience (not a great player but we missed Prosser, Smith not a good replacement) & the U's could move forwards for the first time in a dozen declining years.
It will be an intriguing close season as we will be able to see what policy Mr Cowling's adopted for the near future.

As ever many thanks for this Durham, can't argue with your sentiments and Mr Cowling's future words are intriguing to say the least. I think we'll lose easily today, on ability, but I hope to be proved wrong. The decline has worried me for ages and this year has had distinct similarities to the season before the one where we dropped out of the league. I hope Cowling's noticed.

Shrimpers to be potted by the Super U's at the JSCS
at 17:35 22 Apr 2021

Post Tuesday I'm more relaxed and feel we could be OK. I actually expected us to lose on Tuesday but to get something at Cheltenham, now I just feel the extra confidence gained could garner three more points someplace before seasons end.
I don't actually think we were very good on Tuesday so my feet are grounded. I am more concerned at what plans accrue over the close season to ensure there's no repeat of the extraordinary decomposure post Marine/Exeter.

Crikey Mick, that opened my eyes as I never expected to see players on those salaries. A quick look at a few other sides shows us to be one of the highest payers too.
