Good luck JM (but not against us).

It will be interesting to see what he can achieve without TH in the background.

Playing two strikers appeals greatly, but it must be a partnership, an understanding, e.g. Hunt/King, Iwulemo/Cureton.

The two may, or must have, individual talents, but teamwork between the two is essentiial.

Letters from Wiltshire #47
at 12:49 3 May 2021

So, there was I, decorating our bathroom in Glasgow. No immediate access to information. My family was watching TV, so no access to ceefax/teletext. Then a phone call from my son in Ipswich, "Dad, Colchester United are in the final".

Decorating ceased, and for the rest of the evening, my wife and two daughters were subjected to me singing, "Daddy's going to Wembley. His knees have gone all trembly". They still remind me of it.

Thanks for those wonderful memories, Durham.

One to add (I think it was Cloughie): "if it moves, kick it. If it doesn't move, kick it till it does".

Colchester to be the driving force at the Jonny Rocks stadium!
at 17:47 24 Apr 2021

It's what footie is all about and a damned sight more exciting than the proposed ESL, although I'm not sure that such excitement involving the U's is good for me at my age.

But, up the U's anyway.

Burnsie, a 0-0 result would be handy, but I hope we don't approach the match with a mindset of playing for a 0-0. That can be very dangerous. One mistake, one bad ref's decision can cost dearly.

So, let's go for a win and settle for a draw if it comes to that.

You're absolutely right, Wessex.

But what it demonstrates is that our survival is all about arithmetic, and not about football.

All I can say is "Up the U's".

Great result, but we're not safe yet. Let's hope this gives the squad, including management and coaches etc. build on this as a confidence builder.

Note to Cossie and Thrillo. When we "veterans" first went to matches, we had to pay with proper money.

I fall in between Gerry and Burnsie. My first match was April 1954, aged 7 v Brighton (1-1). Th U's bug never left me.

Apart from the three Wembley appearances which I came down for, and a pre-season friendly at Partick Thistle, 1990, I missed watching the U's for 15 years, 1983-1998.

During that time I supported Hearts (I still do). Yes, I know they are an Edinburgh club - it's a long story. My son and I would go to Hearts matches, home and away, then rush home to get the English results on Ceefax or Teletext. Of course, I honed straight in on the U's score, whereas, I regret to say that my son looked for the Ipswich Town score. He remains a staunch fan to this day.

A bit of amusing dialogue from Taggart:
Det Sgt Jardine to Taggart: "There's been a murder at Firhill (Partick Thistle ground).
Taggart: "It's murder at Firhill every second Saturday".

Other clubs slipping up is helpful, of course, but it's still in our own hands - just!

Let's do it!

Well said, Wessex.

Back in the dark days of the mid-1960s, in my teens, I said to my Mum, "I don't care how bad the U's get, I will never stop supporting them".

Well, that sentiment has been severely tested these recent months and weeks. But I still loyally pay my £10 iFollow fee every match.

Keep trying as hard as you can, Colchester United, and do your best.

Oh Dear. I hadn't realised it was a 1.00pm kick off, so I missed it on iFollow.

But from this thread, it seems that, at last, the team understood their tactics and worked together and committed themselves to a team performance.

Early days, but a promise of better times and, hopefully survival.

Uo the re-vitalised U's.
