View from the opposition - Notts County Friday, 1st Aug 2008 23:00
Thanks to Notts County supporter Jake Carrington, we have the words and wisdom from their point of view about the current thinking with regards to Notts County and how they see the forthcoming season unfolding.
How was last season
for you? |
Last season was terrible. We finished 21st last
season and that was a massive disappointment for the fans, who were
expecting the playoffs at least. On paper we made some excellent
signings e.g Hector Sam, Spencer Weir-Daley, Richard Butcher. However,
very few of them came good and we also lost David Pipe to Bristol
Rovers, which was a blow as he was by far our best player. It was lucky
that the manager came in and loaned the likes of Michael Johnson,
Russell Hoult and Ryan Jarvis, as they helped keep us in the league at
the expense of Mansfield Town, our rivals.
|
Has your club's Summer
activities lived up to expectations?
|
I think our transfers this summer have been very
good. Signing Michael Johnson on a one year deal has been greeted by the
fans tremendously. The Jamie Forrester signing I am particularly proud
of as he is a real hitman and could be the missing link we have needed
since Mark Stallard left years ago. As for the other signings, I am
delighted we got Hoult, happy about getting Nowland and glad we got
Jason Beardsley on loan and Matt Hamshaw as well. I am also glad we
released lots of dead wood, although I would have liked to have kept Lee
Canoville.
|
Where do you think
you will finish next season and why? |
I am cautiously optimistic about next season. I would
be happy with a top 12 finish, but lots of fans want more than that. I
think the playoffs are not beyond us, with a bit of luck and some good
management.
|
Where do you think
Dale will finish next season and why? |
I think Rochdale will possibly get promoted.
Bournemouth's financial problems and Luton's huge points deficit leaves
the field clear for Rochdale. I think you will finish 2nd behind Port
Vale. Good luck for the new season.
