Steven Gillespie scored the only goal of the game - a second half penalty after Andy Bond was brought down in the box. The game was evenly matched with the U's the more domanant side in the first half and Braintree in the second half. John Ward opted to start the match with a 4-2-3-1 formation, which saw Kem Izzet and Lloyd James as holding midfielders, while Ashley Vincent, Bond and Ian Henderson pushed forward to support Gillespie upfront.
