Former Town and England skipper Mick Mills represented the Blues at Gary Ablett’s funeral at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral this afternoon. Ex-Blues bosses Joe Royle and Roy Keane were also present, along with former coaches Tony Loughlan, Chris Kiwomya and Ian McParland.

Ablett, who joined Keane’s staff as a coach in the summer of 2010 but was taken ill soon afterwards, lost his fight against non-Hodgkin lymphoma on New Year’s Day at the age of 46.

Chief executive Simon Clegg told the club site: "I am very grateful to Mick for accepting my invitation to represent the club today.

“This is an incredibly sad time for all of Gary's family and friends and our thoughts are with Jacqueline and the children especially on this very difficult day."
