Saints travel to The New Den to take on Millwall.

Those looking for omens will recall that Saints drew Millwall in the 4th round the last time they reached the FA Cup Final in 2003, however back then the first game was at St Mary's followed by a tense replay in South East London.

For Saints its a good draw and gives them to opportunity of progressing to the 5th round, there would be some who would say that a cup run is detrimental to our promotion hopes, but i would counter that with a squad as good as ours a game at Millwall as in the 3rd round at Coventry gives us the opportunity to get some conffidence up as well as giving a game to those who havent had too much of a chance.

The game will be played on Saturday 28th January coincidentally the 28th anniversary of our 4th round FA Cup win at Fratton Park.

Whatsforpud added 20:43 - Jan 18 Sadly, these earlier round don't have the same meaning as they used to. Nick, you say that it gives a game for those who haven't had much of a chance. I agree, but this is one of the reasons for the demise of the FA Cup. Giving those players a game is partly the result of opting out of the Combination League, or whatever it is called now. Just having a youth team doesn't allow for older players.

It's down to the clubs. They put weakened teams out so the fans don't respond. They all talk about the magic of the cup but it's the clubs that have killed it. How much longer will TV companies put the 3rd and 4th round on TV for games between reserve sides in silence.
