Saints have asked their supporters to turn up in numbers for the visit of Derby Couny on Saturday in a game that could see Saints regain the top spot.

Understandably Saints recent home games have shown a drop after the full houses over the festive period, the visit of Leicester attracted only 14 over 21k meaning that only around 20,500 Saints supporters could be bothered turning up, the visit of Cardiff was perhaps more disapointing in that after allowing for the 1,800 Cardiff fans there, the home fan count wasnt significantly higher for such a important top of the table fixture. Last weeks visit of Burnley saw a little over 24k in total including 1100 from Lancashire.

All of these three gates are a lot less than the 25,545 average for the season, with ironically Saturday's visitors Derby being slightly above us in the average attendance stakes.

So is it unfair for the Club to call for its fans to rally behind them as they strive to take another step towards the Premier league and indeed regain top spot, is it unfair for the club to at least expect to get its average attendance through the gate for such an important match, I would say no, as the season reaches its last third we are reaching the business end of it, we need all the support that we can muster, time to get behind the team

As a season ticket holder I will obviously be going, but my participation and enjoyment will be quite different than on a Sat at 3pm. Everyone likes routine and tbh Sky Sports are not exacly helping, (what are their figures for Saints V Reading anyhow)

st_mike added 16:33 - Feb 17 I'm a bit surprised that attendances haven't been a bit higher, I'm a season ticket holder and have a sixty mile round trip from Bournemouth each game. Times are difficult finacially at the moment, which I'm sure plays a part, but apart from our recent blip, the football's been fantastic and we haven't been out of the top two all season. So I think Saints are right to encourage more support.

Zambucco added 23:16 - Feb 17 I'm all in favour of all spare tickets being sold on the day for a knock down price. I'm a season ticket holder so my place is safe. But htere are a lot of fans who really struggle to find the normal ticket price. It would boost crowds and bring in a little more revenue. Okay there would be fans who would then only buy tickets on the day instead of in advance, but then there is a chance of not getting a ticket or a ticket in a section they don't want. I was out of work for 6 months and couldn't aford to go, it killed me!
