Butt In ? Or Butt Out ?
Butt In ? Or Butt Out ?

A week ago it looked like the deal for Alexander Buttner was virtually signed sealed and delivered, now its unclear just what is going on.

With both the player and his club Vitesse Arnhem stating that the deal was agreed it looked like only a formality before the player was unveiled as a Saint, however as the weekend wore on, it seemd that something was not quite right with Vitesse putting out an offical statement to say that the deal was in jeopardy due to the emergence of a third party, just who that third party is is unclear.

It inferred that Buttner's agent has put the spanner in the works whilst confirming that Saints themselves had no part in the problems and had conducted themselves in the right manner, but the question still remains just why the deal has stalled.

It could be that the agent is demanding a cut on the deal, this is pretty standard and it seems it could be he is demanding it from Vitesse who are refusing to pay, there statement also refers to the fact that they feel they, on the request of the player actually negotiated his deal with Saints, if that is the case then the agent probably is legally in the right to demand his cut of the deal if he is contracted to the player.

So will Saints hang on in there and wait for their man, or will they get tired of waiting and look elsewhere, certainly the Saints chairman is a man who is renowned for not allowing agents to try and dictate during transfers, as had been well documented in the past several Saints transfers have fallen through at a late stage for a variety of reasons, the question now is whether Alexander Buttner will soon be a Saint or will join the list of the nearly men.

For all the talk about youth, Adkins doesnt seem that keen on using the home grown talent apart from in cup ties

Buttner's Agent was on BBC Radio Solent this morning apparently, and admitted that he had tried to change the deal after it had been agreed by all parties, by suggesting Saints should pay in fewer installments. His suggestion he said had been looked at and ignored by both clubs. But then he went on to say this was not the stumbling block that was causing the current problem, stating this had something to do with a still unnamed "Third Party".

The only thing I can think of is that Buttner has a former agent, who probably claims to have an oustanding contractual agreement with the player over a cut of any transfer fee. (A very cheeky, but legal trick used by a lot of european agents apparently, in case players change agent at any time).

It is possible that Ajax (Buttner's former club) may have had a sell on clause with Vitesse, but it is very very unlikely that Vitesse would not have had full knowledge of it.

I think Chenzo is right...a former agent sounds very likely. Whatever the case I hope we get on and sign the lad now - and that he turns out to be worth all this trouble.

Overhere it is rumoured someone else owns a part of Buttner's contract. So he should get a share of the transfer fee. And Vitesse isn't willing to give up that part of the fee. The ' third party ' will not give up his rights for the player as he has to allow the transfer. Vitesse has to pay up the money and then he will release his partial player right.

surely Vitesse should have known that they only part owned the player and the percentages etc and built that in to negotiations
