Ross McCormack agrees new three year deal on eve of his 26th birthday.

The official Leeds United website have confirmed that Ross McCormack has agreed a three-year-deal with the whites earlier today.

Last seasons top-scorer, who also scored midweek for his native Scotland against Australia, gave us all a massive boost by agreeing the new deal on the eve of our Championship crunch opener against Wolverhampton, when it seemed Leeds were set to lose him for a knock down fee or on a Bosman next summer.

As well as the season curtain raiser tomorrow, Rosco turns 26 tomorrow so let's hope it will be a memorable day for him and us.

I honestly believed McCormack was destined for pastures new when he rebuffed Leeds offer of a new deal initially and the summer of takeover turmoil commenced. Indeed Crystal Palace claimed Leeds even agreed a fee with them for McCormack before we apparently changed our mind at the very last minute.

Neil Warnock claimed he was "optimistic" in keeping McCormack after last weekend's League Cup win over Shrewsbury and having scored our fourth goal from the penalty spot, McCormack celebrated by miming signing a piece of paper and waved appreciatively at the crowd when they chanted "Sign him up!".

Neil Warnock also paid tribute to chief exec Shaun Harvey for his work in securing Ross's services until 2015 and at this rate Harvey's popularity will be soaring to the extent where there will be a campaign to have his statute erected next to the Black Prince in City Square!

The former Post Office employee and Bradford City chief executive has long been seen as nothing more than a "Ken Bates Puppet" but reportedly flew to Monaco last week for a furious showdown with Bates over the apparent collapse of the takeover.

Harvey also shared a forum last Saturday with Gary Cooper of LUST over match day stewarding at ER, an organisation Bates has publically reviled.

So whilst Shaun Harvey may yet emerge as an unlikely hero of the fans off the pitch, at least we are guaranteed the services of a proven hero on the pitch for the forseeable future!
