Shaw Out Of England Game ! Could He Be In Line For Premier Debut Against Spurs !
Shaw Out Of England Game ! Could He Be In Line For Premier Debut Against Spurs !

Luke Shaw has been withdrawn by Saints from the England Under 18 squad to play Italy at mansfield tomorrow night, prompting speculation that he could be in line for a Premier league debut.

Saints have announced that Luke Shaw had picked up an injury against Spurs U21 side on Monday 15th October and that this has forced his withdrawal from the England squad, however with an injury to Danny Fox and a crisis in defence speculation is rife that Shaw may have actually been withdrawn with the intention of him making his Premier league debut on Sunday when Saints face the Spurs first team.

Given that Shaw played the full 90 minutes in the academy game and that with a full week since passed its a very late call to withdraw him, this fuels rumour that Shaw could actually be being wrapped in cotton wool ahead of Sunday's fixture and that Nigel Adkins might be willing to gamble that the talented youngster is ready to be thrown in at the deep end, ironically perhaps facing a player who made his bow at left back for saints at a similar age, Gareth Bale.

Throwing in Shaw would undoubtably be a big risk for Adkins, but some would say no more of a gamble than playing Yoshida again at left back and that given the youngster has pace he could counter that of Bale.

My worry though would be that at present with the cover ahead of our left back, Ashley Cole would struggle, the problem isnt the position itself but the wide left position in front of it.

A game like this could make or break a youngster, seven years ago many of our promising youth team were thrown to the wolves and although some prospered, others like Nathan Dyer took a long time to get over it and realise their potential, some it could be said like Dexter Blackstock never realised theirs.

I would be surprised it see him starting in front of Reeves…considering reeves has been on the bench for the first team the last 3 games.
Although maybe he was just there as cover because shaw was not 100% fit.

I think chappers should go on the left, and play adam just off the striker.
I would even consider fox at left mid. We don’t really have anyone else who can cross as well as him and that’s the service ricky needs….punch just cant deliver.

Even as im writing this you can see what a tough job NA has. He has my backing though, even if we go down I would still stick with him. I would rather have 5 years of up and down and trying to get it right than playing boring football and fishing 17th every season.
Being relegated showed me that there is life after the premiership.

I do actually agree with you, but when managers are in trouble they sometimes try big gambles to try and change things, a bit like hittig a ball into the trees playing golf, many try a difficult shot to tray and get back on par, but more often thn not it just makes things worse whereas a canny player will chip back on to the fairway

Indeed it would be a risky shot, he's injured!

Didnt you read what I wrote, its strange that he should be pulled out at such late notice from the squad citing an injury sustained in a game in which he completed 90 minutes

So injury could be just an excuse

There aren't any easy answers to our problems when we have to play 4-3-3, when we don't have any wide players. I don't understand why we have to be so inflexible. Last year we could change tatics to will. Nigels post match interview after WHU was dire, no positive comments, he looked miserable, and confirmed no change in tatics. As has been said before if we use the same players in the same positions the results will stay the same. Are any of us expecting a win on Sunday? I would give Luke a chance even for part of the match.

P.S. What has hapened to Dean Wilkins?

TOGETHER AS ONE!

Do you think Adkins would stifle a youngs lad's chance to play for England, then?

I dont see why not, a lot of managers have, Appleton at Pompey withdrew their England under 18 player last month because he was needed for the subs bench he didnt care about stifling his england commitments.

Its pretty common these days to put club before country at all levels

I believe Ben Reeves was a left back in the U16 & U18 teams until the emergence of Luke Shaw in that position. After that Reeves has played in different positions for the U18 & U21 teams. Surely if Fox is still not fit it would be less of a gamble to play Reeves at left back.
Hoovielt played against WHU to combat the threat of Andy Carroll. Yoshida at left back did not work.So against Spurs put Yoshida back in the middle with Fonte and play Clyne & Reeves as full backs

Atrocious behaviour! I think if you are called up for England and decline you should be suspended for the next FA game. (especially the seniors).

Le god I have been advocating trying reeves at either left back or as our wide left player to provide cover for the left back for a long time now.

Slynch, I agree with you but how many times do we see England players withdrawn from squads with injury only to play for their clubs a few days later, Arsenal are big offenders here

Yea, Reminds me of Monty P and the Holy Grail, when Cleese claims he was was turned into a newt... "I got better!"

Talk about conspiracy theories. Next you'll be telling us you've seen a UFO in your back garden (and claiming it was out of position because of a problem with its wings).
